Local teacher awarded grant
The Idaho Forest Products Commission has awarded fifteen grants to help students learn more about Idaho’s forests, management and products. Winning proposals for grants of up to $250 each were selected from applications submitted from throughout the state.
One of those grantees was Colleen Sonnen 5th-6th grades Science teacher at  Prairie Elementary School in Cottonwood. Her proposed project was for transportation to a forest and a sawmill, and purchase of supplies for building and placing owl nesting boxes.  Students will learn about forest management, forest products and wildlife habitat.
Our forest education grants support projects that get youth connected with Idaho’s forest resources,” said IFPC’s Education Coordinator, Michelle Youngquist.  ”We applaud these dedicated educators for their commitment to providing these kinds of experiences.”
