Fund board meeting held
The annual meeting of the Sister Martina Gehring Memorial Fund Board was held on July 17 at the Monastery of St. Gertrude. Members present were chairperson Denise Poxleitner, Carol Lauer, Ellen Von Bargen, Pat Gehring, Marlene O’Neill, Karen Gehring and Sister Therese.
Martina Gehring was a Benedictine Sister at the Monastery of St. Gertrude who served as an educator and an administrator of St. Benedict Family Medical Center in Jerome. After she was killed in a car accident on June 21, 1987, her family established a fund to honor her memory by supporting causes that were important to her. In the last 25 years more than $25,000 from the fund has been used to support the pregnancy centers in Lewiston and Grangeville, continuing the education for sisters at the monastery and the promotion of vocations.
Contributions can be made to the fund through donations, gifts, memorials and wills and the family meets once a year to discuss the distribution of the funds.
