Choir to perform at Monastery
The Spirituality and the Arts program at the Monastery of St. Gertrude is proud to announce the return of the Gonzaga University Choir for a performance in the chapel. This yearís performance is on Sunday, September 9 at 2 p.m. The group will also provide music for 11:30 Mass that morning. This will be the choirís second performance at the Monastery and will conclude their annual retreat at Spirit Center.
The chorus is a select, mixed ensemble of 55 voices led by Timothy Westerhaus. The performance will include a wide variety of sacred and secular repertoire from the Medieval to Modern historical periods and from diverse cultures. The University Choir performs for audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest including Spokaneís St. Aloysius Church and Fox Theater. It also performs frequent regional tours, including the Seattle and Portland area at places such as Daniels Recital Hall and St. James Cathedral.
Director Timothy Westerhaus has conducted a variety of collegiate and professional ensembles in the United States and Europe; his teaching activities span from universities to national music organizations; and his solo appearances as tenor and pianist encompass music from the Baroque to modern eras. Mr. Westerhaus received his formal music degrees with highest honors. He holds a bachelorís degree in liturgical music from the University of Saint Thomas and a masterís degree in choral conducting from Boston University.
The performance is free and all are welcome.
