Lady Pirates sweep tri-match
Playing some of their best volleyball of the season the Prairie Lady Pirates swept both Kamiah and Grangeville in a tri-match played at Grangeville Thursday, Oct. 4.
They beat Kamiah 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 and then beat Grangeville 25-12, 25-12, 25-20.Tyler Workman played very well against Kamiah. Here she goes for one of her 14 kills. Shown from left are Krystin Uhlenkott, Leah Holthaus and Hailey Danly.
In the White Pine League match against Kamiah they started slowly and then got rolling.
Kamiah jumped out to a 1-8 with Shelby Cloninger collecting 4 kills.
Tyler Workman ended the run with a kill and Prairie started fighting their way back into the game.
The turning point was a great volley for a sideout that made it 17-18 as both teams made great plays to get the ball back over the net including digging up spikes and chasing down passes. Tanna Schlader finally ended it by getting a spike to fall.
That sent Stephanie Gimmeson to the service line. She had bricked her only serve previous but managed to serve 8 straight points. She had just 1 ace as Prairie dominated at the net. Workman had 3 kills plus a stuff block. Schlader added 2 kills including the game-winner and Krystin Uhlenkott had a kill.
In the second game Prairie took a small early lead but pulled away on a 4-point service run by Leah Holthaus and a 6-point service run by Uhlenkott.
During those runs Shelby VonBargen had 3 kills while Schlader, Uhlenkott and Holthaus added a kill each. Holthaus had 1 ace and Uhlenkott had 3 as Prairie took an 18-6 lead on their way to a 12-point win.
Early in the game Workman slammed a spike that hit Cloninger in the face. Cloninger tried to play the rest of the game but wasn’t as effective as she’d been early on and sat out the third game.
In the third game Kamiah took a 0-3 lead but a couple of kills by Workman plus a 4-point service run by her gave Prairie a 6-4 lead that the Pirates never surrendered although Kamiah was able to keep it close until late.
Prairie led just 15-13 when the Uhlenkott scored a sideout kill. Schlader then scored a kill to end another great volley where Hailey Danly chased down an errant pass and got the ball back into play.
After trading sideouts, Workman scored a kill to make it 19-14.
After a Kamiah sideout, Workman stuffed a Kamiah spike to put Danly on the service line. After 2 aces and a kill by Holthaus Prairie had a 23-15 lead.
Kamiah scored a sideout but Danly then picked up a kill as she tipped the ball over on the second touch to make it 24-16.
Schlader then served up an ace to end the match.
Workman had 14 kills including 5 stuffs in the match. Uhlenkott had 12 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Schlader had 10 kills, 1 assists and 2 aces. VonBargen had 7 kills. Danly had 2 kills, 4 aces and 33 assists. Holthaus had 2 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. Gimmeson had 1 kill and 1 ace.
Other than the scores we have no details on the Grangeville match as your reporter had to leave after the Kamiah match for another commitment.
With the wins Prairie improves to 4-6 in league play and 18-10 overall.
