Summit boys win twice
The Summit boys basketball team won twice last week, defeating the Grangeville JV 61-58 on Thursday, Jan. 10 and then edging the Deary Mustangs in a league game 49-44 on Friday, Jan. 11.
Vs. Grangeville JV
Michael Waters filled the stat sheet in the Grangeville game as he had 21 points, 10 steals, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, a near quadruple-double.
Matt Schwartz outdid Waters in scoring by pumping in 25 points.
Summit jumped out to a 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter only to have Grangeville close it to 31-27 by halftime.
Summit again came out strong in the third quarter by outscoring the Bulldogs 16-8 to take a 47-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
They then had to hold on to win as Grangeville rallied back in the fourth.
Shane Stubbers added 8 points and 9 rebounds while Josh Lustig had 4 points and 8 rebounds. Dean Stubbers added 3 points.

Vs. Deary
In a league matchup at Deary Summit gained a season split with the Mustangs who had beaten them 42-43 earlier in the season.
Deary led 16-19 after 1 quarter and 26-29 at the half. Summit pulled within 1 by the end of the third quarter, 42-43, then outscored the Mustangs 7-1 in the fourth to pull out the win.
Waters and Matthew Schwartz shared the scoring honors for the Patriots with 13 points each while Lustig added 11 points. Shane Stubbers scored 7 and Nathan Beckman 5.
Summit is now 2-3 in league play and 5-8 overall.

Summit girls lose twice
The Summit Lady Patriots lost a pair of games this past week as they were beaten by the Grangeville varsity 16-52 on Thursday, Jan. 10 and then lost at Deary in a league game 28-41 Friday, Jan. 11.

Vs. Grangeville
The first quarter was very fast-paced between both teams. Sarah Chmelik scored 4 and Megan Seubert 3 giving Summit 7 at the end the 1st quarter while Grangeville had 18.
The 2nd quarter was not as high-scoring and ended with Abi Chmelik scoring Summit’s 2 points while Grangeville scored 7.
By the end of the third quarter Rachel Waters scored Summit’s 2 points. The quarter ended with Summit 11 and Grangeville with 42.
The game ended with Grangeville taking home a victory. The final score was Summit 16 and Grangeville 52.

Vs. Deary
The first quarter ended with Deary scoring 15 points, evenly spread out throughout their starters. Summit fought hard but ended with only 4 points, all by Megan Rehder.
During the second quartr Summit scored 5 points and Deary 9. This ended the first half with Summit scoring 9 and Deary 24.
The third quarter Summit started to come back. Deary only outscored them by 7. Seubert was high scorer for Summit in the quarter with 3 points.
Summit ended the game with a great effort and outscored Deary for the quarter. The final score was Summit 28 and Deary 41.
With the losses Summit drops to 1-5 in league play and 6-8 overall.
