Summit beats Timberline...twice
In their regular season finale the Summit Patriots clobbered Timberline 70-33 Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Cottonwood to earn the #4 seed into the District Tournament. Then on Monday, Feb. 11 they opened the District Tournament against Timberline and beat them again 62-46. 
Summit will next play Nezperce Friday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. With a win they would advance to the District Championship game Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. If they lose they would play Highland at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18.
At Cottonwood
Summit had lost in overtime at Timberline but this time the game was no contest as Summit jumped all over the Spartns in the first quarter to the tune of 26-6.

Summit however dominated the second half outscoring the Spartans 18-6 in the third quarter and 10-3 in the final quarter.
It was senior night for the Patriots and the only senior on the squad, Shane Stubbers, came up with a big night with 11 points and 21 rebounds. Josh Lustig also had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Matthew Schwartz was the high scorer for the Patriots with 21 points while Michael Waters scored 14, Nathan Beckman 3 and Dean Stubbers 2.
Summit ended the regular season at 7-13 overall and 4-6 in the White Pine League Division 2 standings.

At District
In the game at District it was the second quarter where Summit got some separation from the Spartans who hung in with the Patriots through the first quarter.
Lustig provided the offensive spark for the Patriots in the first quarter as he scored 7 of the 15 points as Summit led 15-12 at the end of the period.
Lustig kept up his hot shooting in the second period as he made his first 4 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer. He was also 4 for 4 at the free throw line.
He had 4 of Summit’s points in a quarter-opening 8-0 run as Summit took a 23-12 lead. After Timberline broke the run with a basket, Summit scored another 7 straight to take a 30-14 lead.

Summit then opened the second half with a 7-0 run as Waters scored 2 baskets and Matthew Schwartz added a 3-pointer to give Summit a 37-16 lead.

At left is Matthew Schwartz and at right is Michael Waters.Timberline was then able to rally back as they forced several Summit turnovers and hit a couple of 3-pointers to cut the lead down to 42-32 by the end of the third quarter.
The end of the quarter helped break that momentum though as Shane Stubbers opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 3-point play and added 2 more free throws. A putback by Waters enabled Summit to push the lead back to 17 at 49-32.
Timberline again cut the lead down to 11 with a 0-6 run but Schwartz ended that with his second 3-pointer.
Summit was then able to hold off Timberline the rest of the way for a 16-point win.
Schwartz led 4 Summit players in double figures with 18 points. Lustig scored 14 and Waters and Shane Stubbers added 12 each. Thomas Schwartz came off the bench in the fourth quarter to score 4 points and Beckman scored 2.
Summit held a 42-31 rebounding advantage with Stubbers pulling down 16 rebounds. Lustig and Waters added 8 each.
Waters had 6 steals and Lustig had 5 assists.
Summit was 23 for 63 from the field, 37%, and 13 for 18 at the line, 72%. Timberline was 18 for 47 from the field, 38%, and 5 for 7 at the line, 71%.
Summit is now 8-13 on the season.
