Prairie hosts Junior high volleyball tournament
Prairie Jr. High hosted its annual Jr. High Girls Volleyball tournament this last Saturday, February 23, 2013.  This serves as a fundraiser for the Volleyball program—the High School players sign up to work the tournament.  The money raised in this tournament helps send the girls to camp over the summer.  Nineteen teams attended the tournament, with 10 teams in the 7th Grade bracket and 9 teams in the 8th Grade bracket.
The 7th Grade tournament was held at the Elementary School Gym.  The ten teams attending were split into two pools of five.  Each pool had a round-robin pool play, where each team played every other team in their pool once.  Once pool play was over, the top two teams from each pool moved on to the Championship round.  Prairie’s team did extremely well—they made it into the Championship round.  They placed 2nd overall, losing to Nezperce in the final round.  Nezperce was given medals for placing 1st.
The 8th Grade tournament was held at the High School Gym.  Since there were nine teams in this bracket, the teams were split into a pool of five teams and a pool of four teams.  Prairie’s squad played in both pools to make sure that all the visiting teams were able to play at least 4 matches throughout the day.  However, Prairie’s scores only counted in one pool.  Each pool had a round-robin pool play, where each team played every other team in their pool once.  Once pool play was over, the top two teams from each pool moved on to the Championship round.  Prairie played a total of 10 matches throughout the day and took 1st place.  Grangeville lost to Prairie in the final round, placing 2nd.
Prairie ended its season on the road against CV Tuesday, February 26, 2013.  Both teams had an incredible season of growth and fun.  The 8th grade team completed the season undefeated.  The coaches would like to thank all of the players for an incredible season and the parents for all of your support.
Katherine Nida is supported by Kirsten Latimer, Holli Uhlorn and Emily McHugh during a cheer at the Kamiah game.
