Youth Choir rehearsals to start
The Prairie Youth Choir will be starting rehearsals on Thursday, February 28th in the Prairie Elementary Music Room.  Prairie Youth Choir is open to any student in the 3rd - 6th grades enrolled in the Cottonwood School District, Summit Academy or Home-Schooled.  We have a tradition of striving for musical excellence and we like to have fun in the process.  The only requirements are that you like to sing, enjoy making music, and are willing to be a team player and learn your music.  You don’t have to audition, but you need to attend most of the rehearsals in order to participate in our performances.  At choir, you learn how to warm up your voice properly, have opportunities to sing solos, work on dramatic skills and stage presence, and have a good time doing so.  We will also be using the chimes and marimbas on some of our songs this year.  In choir you learn how to sing harmony and blend your voice with the other choir members.
Rehearsals are generally on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15.  We will add some Wednesday or Tuesday rehearsals in April depending upon student schedules. We will not be competing at Jazz Festival this year because the entry fee went up $100 the past year and we need to use part of our fees to pay for our snack after school.   Your child can go to the Center for Discovery afterwards if you make arrangements.
Some of the activities of the Prairie Youth Choir are:  We will participate in the District II Elementary Music Festival on Wednesday, May 8th in Lewiston.  We will also perform at the PES Spring concert.
The cost is $30.00 for all members.  The fees pay for music that you will share with a partner, entry fees for the Elementary Music Festival in Lewiston, and other costs to run the choir - accompanist, daily after school snack, etc.   This year, for a fee, we also have bus transportation home from the Center for Discovery.  Check with Erin Shears if you are interested – 962-7080.
So, if you like to sing, be sure to attend our first practice on Thursday, February 28th in the Prairie Elementary Music Room, right after school.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Karel, the director, at Prairie High School 962-3901 on the mornings,  the afternoons at Prairie Elementary - 962-3521, or at home in the evenings - 962-5350.
