5 earn medals at State
Five of the seven Prairie Wrestlers attending the State Tournament in Pocatello this past weekend brought home state medals.
They were led by Alex Duman who brought home a 2nd place medal and was only the third Prairie wrestler to ever make a championship match joining Seth Dean, who did it twice with a 1st and a 2nd, and Tyrell Langston, who also finished 2nd.
Kade Perrin earned a third place medals, Tyler Ross and Tayler Heitman earned 4th place medals and Dally Ratcliff earned a 6th place medal.
Following are the results by weight class:
106 lbs.-Kellie Heitman lost by pin in 1:06 to Carson McClain of Malad, who eventually placed 4th. She was eliminated in the second round by Jackson Theberge of Wendell on a 4-7 decision.
113 lbs.-Tyler Ross won by pin in 4:36 over Dalton Smith of New Plymouth in the first round. In the second round he lost 11-2 to #2 seed Steved Zettel of Challis. In the consolation bracket he defeated Bill Godfrey of Salmon 9-3. In the consolation quarterfinals he won by pin over Cody Edwards of St. Maries in 3:55. In the consolation semifinals he defeated #1 seeded Cody Svedin of Melba 15-4. In the 3rd place match he ran into Zettel again and lost a hard-fought 0-1 decision to finish 4th.
120 lbs.-Dally Ratcliff won by pin over Sebastian Salazar of Challis in 3:17. In the second round he won by pin over #2 seeded Carson Roberts of West Side in 5:16. In the semifinals he lost 0-4 to Rob Pair of Cascade, the #3 seed. In the consolation semifinals he lost 4-11 to Vladi Garcia of Valley. In the 5th place match he lost by pin to Austin Anderson of Aberdeen in 3:45 to finish in 6th place.
126 lbs.-Tayler Heitman won by pin over Clay Crandall of North Gem in 2:07. In the second round he lost by pin in 3:58 to #4 seed John Nunnelee of Declo. In the consolation bracket he won by pin over Chris Campbell of West Jefferson in just 31 seconds. His consolation quarterfinals match went even quicker as he needed just 24 seconds to pin Gabe Cobabe of Malad. In the consolation semifinals he won 7-5 over Josh Richmond of St. Maries. In the third place match he ran up against Nunnelee again and lost again by pin in 2:52 to finish in 4th place.
132 lbs.-Alex Duman won by pin in 4:47 over Kade Jorgensen of Grace. In the second round he won by pin over Brad Gerratt of Valley in 3:28. In the semifinals he faced Dakota Stallions of New Plymouth who had beaten him twice at last year’s tournament. This time Duman got the better of Stallions in a 10-5 decision to advance to the championship match. In the championship match he lost 2-6 to Levi Perry of Melba, the #1 seed.
Hunter McWilliams won his first round match by pin in 54 seconds over Cal Willie of Malad. In the second round he lost by pin in 1:48 to Layton Wasia of Firth. In the consolation bracket he was eliminated 3-7 by Carols Romero of North Fremont.
145 lbs.-Kade Perrin won his first round match by pin over Austin Barzee of Rimrock in 1:49. in the second round he lost a narrow 2-3 decision to Quinn Eliason of Malad. In the consolation bracket he won by pin in 2:48 over Dalton Peterson of Raft River. In the consolation quarterfinals he won 4-0 over Jake Mitton of Oakley. In the consolation semifinals he won a 2-0 decision over Clancy Beck of Aberdeen. In the 3rd place match he ran into Eliason again and this time won a 3-1 decision to finish third.
