Summit wins season finale, loses District opener
The Summit Lady Patriots won their regular season finale over Timberline 25-8, 25-17, 25-17.
That win gave them a 4-8 league record, good for the #5 seed into District.
The JV also won both games of their match.
On Saturday, Oct. 19 Summit opened District play against #4 seeded Deary and were swept in 3 games 17-25, 18-25, 23-25.
Their next District match will be against Logos on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m. in a loser-out match. With a win they would play the Timberline-Deary winner at 7:30 p.m. With another win they would play at 5 p.m. Thursday
Vs. Deary at District
Of the top 4 teams in the league, Deary is the one Summit had the most trouble with during the season as they have yet to win even a game against the Mustangs while they have taken Kendrick, Logos and Nezperce each to 5 games at least once.Megan Rehder gets the match started by making the opening serve as Summit played Deary at District on Saturday.
The first District game against Deary was the only one that was really lopsided as Deary took an early lead at 4-9 after a 4-point service run and were able to hold off Summit the rest of the way, leading by as many as 9 points.
Summit was able to cut that down to 5 at 17-22 after 2 aces by Sarah Chmelik but that was it.
Summit fell behind 3-9 in the second game but behind Chmelik’s serving and Ally Hale’s play at the net were able to cut the lead to 8-9. 2 blocks and 2 kills by Hale along with an ace by Chmelik accounted for the scoring.
After trading sideouts, Rachel Waters served up 2 aces to give Summit an 11-10 lead. Unfortunately that didn’t last as Deary roared back with a 1-8 run to retake a 6-point lead and held on from there to win by 7.
Summit looked like they might win the third game and extend the match.
The game went back and forth early on but Summit took a 5 point lead with Megan Rehder serving.
Chmelik score 3 kills and a stuff block and Rehder served up 2 aces as the Patriots took a 15-10 lead.
Deary came back though to tie the game at 16-16. A stuff and then an ace by Megan Seubert put Summit back on top and they held the lead until a side out at 22-19.
Deary put together a 4-point run to take a 22-23 lead before missing a serve.
Summit couldn’t take advantage though as their own serve came up short and Deary scored the final point to win the match.
For the match Hale had 13 kills including 5 stuff blocks. Chmelik had 9 kills including a stuff plus 4 aces and 1 assist. Megan Seubert had 4 kills including 2 stuffs, 3 assists and an ace. Megan Rehder had 2 kills and 6 aces. Rachael Frei had 3 kills, 9 assists and 1 ace. Rachel Waters had 3 kills, 8 assists and 2 aces. Kaitlyn Stubbers had 1 kill and 1 assist.
Summit takes a 7-17 record into Wednesday’s District match.
