Lady Pirates improve to 4-0
The Prairie Lady Pirates had a surprisingly easy 63-23 win over Kendrick Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Cottonwood.Hailey Danly heads upcourt after a steal against Kendrick. She eventually scored a lay-up on the other end. Also shown are Kayla Schumacher, Kyndahl Ulmer and Leah Holthaus.
Prairie jumped out to a 15-0 lead on the Tigers, who returned most of their players from a team that finished 2nd at State in Class 1-A Division 2 last season.
Prairie forced 7 first quarter turnovers and hit 10 of 19 shots with Leah Holthaus scoring 6 and Kayla Schumacher and Keely Schmidt 5 each in that opening quarter. Kendrick converted on just 1 of 11 shot attempts.
After Kendrick scored to break the game-opening 15-0 run, the Prairie started another 15-0 run that carried into the second quarter. They led 26-2 at the quarter break.
Kyndahl Ulmer scored 5 points in the second quarter and Schumacher and Hailey Danly added 4 each as Prairie pushed the lead to 42-11 by halftime.
Danly and Schumacher each scored 6 in the third quarter as Prairie took a 54-21 lead into the final quarter.
Schumacher wound up with 17 points to lead Prairie in scoring with Danly adding 13. Ulmer and Schmidt scored 7 each with Holthaus scoring 6, Sky Wilson and Nicole Wemhoff 4 each, Krystin Uhlenkott 3 and Shayla VonBargen 2.
Prairie also dominated on the boards 47-29 with Ulmer grabbing 12 to lead the way. Schumacher and Uhlenkott added 8 rebounds each.
Prairie had 20 steals led by Danly with 4. Ulmer, Wilson, Schumacher and Wemhoff each added 3 steals.
Holthaus had 8 assists in the game while Schumacher added 4 and Danly 3.
Prairie was 26 for 64 from the field, 41%, and 11 for 19 from the line, 58%. Kendrick hit just 10 of 42 shots from the field, 24% and were 1 for 8 at the line, 13%.
With the win Prairie improves to 4-0 on the season.
The JV game was limited to 2 quarters due to lack of numbers for Kendrick. Despite an off shooting night the Prairie JVs still managed to win 26-16.
The defense forcing 21 turnovers limited Kendrick to just 13 shot attempts while Prairie had 46 attempts. Kendrick hit nearly 62% of their shots but the sheer volume of shots for Prairie led to the win.
Prairie jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Kylie Tidwell scored a basket and Shayla VonBargen added 2 free throws. 
Kendrick came back to tie the score at 6-6 after making each of their first 3 shot attempts. Prairie then went on a 14-2 run that carried into the second quarter.
Prairie led 11-6 at the quarter break and 16-6 before Kendrick scored again.
Prairie’s biggest lead was 14 at 24-10 and 26-12. Kendrick scored the final 4 points to cut the final margin to 10.
Tidwell and Sarah Seubert each scored 6 to lead the scoring with VonBargen and Talyss Lustig scoring 5 each and Natasha Gimmeson 4.
Prairie held a 25-17 rebounding edge led by Seubert with 7. Gimmeson added 6 rebounds.
Lustig had 4 steals and VonBargen 3 to lead the team while Gimmeson had an assist.
Prairie was 11 for 46 from the field, 24%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%. Kendrick was 8 for 13 from the field, 62% and did not attempt a free throw.
