Summit teams win 3 games
The Summit Academy girls won two league games this past week while the boys won their only game, also a league game.
On Thursday, Dec. 20 the girls hosted Timberline at Craigmont and won 51-25.
On Saturday, Dec. 22 both the boys and girls traveled to Moscow where the boys beat Logos 62-45 and the girls followed by beating Logos 28-21,
Girls vs. Timberline
In a league game against timberline Summit raced out to a 20-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. They pushed the lead to 32-12 by halftime and 46-21 after three quarters.
Rachael Frei and Megan Seubert shared scoring honors with 12 points each with Ally Hale also hitting double figures with 10. Megan Rehder added 6 points while Sarah Chmelik and Ashley Stubbers scored 4 each, Rachel Waters 2 and Bridget Beckman 1.

Girls at Logos

Both teams went mostly zone defense and Logos was able to shut down Summit’s inside game and force them to shoot for the outside. What the Patriots lacked in quality shooting they made up for in volume as they hoisted 64 shots compared to just 32 for Logos.
Logos scored first in the game but Summit took the lead on a basket each by Chmelik and Rehder. They led just 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Logos took their only lead with a perimeter shot early in the second quarter but Summit bounced back with another basket each by Chmelik and Rehder.
A 3-pointer by Frei and a free throw by Seubert enabled Summit to take a 12-8 halftime lead despite hitting just 5 of 35 first half shots. Logos was 3 for 15 from the field. 
Things continued in the second half with Summit unable to score inside and having to settle for perimeter shots while Logos tried to pound the ball inside to their 5’11” post Naomi Miller. Miller had 5 of their 8 first half points and 5 of 6 third quarter points.
Summit managed to increase their lead with an 8 point quarter as Frei, Chmelik, Seubert and Rehder scored 2 points each.
Logos managed to get within 3 at 22-19 and 24-21 but Summit answered each time and hit 4 straight free throws in the final minute to ice the game.
Chmelik and Rehder scored 8 points each to lead Summit with Fri scoring 7 and Seubert 5.
Summit had a 47-41 edge on the boards with Hale grabbing 10 rebounds while Rehder had 9 and Seubert and Chmelik had 8 each. 
Chmelik had 5 steals while Frei had 4. Rehder and Chmelik each had 3 assists.
Summit wound up 10 for 64 from the field, 16%, and 7 for 12 at the line, 58%. Logos was 6 for 32 from the field, 19%, and 9 for 23 at the line, 39%.
Summit goes into the Christmas break with a 4-1 league record and 9-1 record overall.

Boys at Logos
The boys game at Logos was a shootout between Summit’s Michael Waters and Logos’ Paul Ryan as each players wound up with 26 points.

At right is Patrick Chmelik while Tyler Krogh can be seen in the background.Summit jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the game as Waters set the tone by hitting a 3-pointer just 12 seconds in. He added another basket while Josh Lustig drove the baseline twice for layups and Dean Stubbers added a basket.
Ryan started off the game ice-cold but heated up midway through the second quarter with a pair of 3-pointers. Summit was able to hold off the Knights once Ryan got hot though as Waters and Matt Schwartz each scored 10 second quarter points. 
Schwartz also ended the half with the play of the game as he launched a shot from close to the Logos 3-point line that sank as the buzzer sounded for a 3-pointer that gave Summit a 36-23 halftime lead.
Logos came out in the second half and quickly cut the lead to 7 points before Waters connected on a basket and then converted a 3-point play to push the lead back to 12.
After a driving lay-up by Ryan, Stubbers answered with a 3-point play of his own when he was fouled on a putback. 
Waters, Patrick Chmelik and Lustig each added a basket as Summit took a 49-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Logos was able to cut the lead down to 12 but couldn’t get any closer.
Summit finished them off with a 9-2 run after Logos cut the lead to 12.
In addition to Waters’ 26, Schwartz added 12 points with Lustig scoring 9, Stubbers 7 and Chmelik and Chris Osborne 4 each.
Summit dominated on the boards 50-31 with Waters pulling down 15 rebounds. He also had 5 steals and 7 assists. Schwartz had 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals while Lustig had 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Summit was 26 for 57 from the field, 46%, and 7 of 18 at the line, 39%. Logos was 13 for 50 from the field, 26%, and 15 for 22 at the line, 68%.
Summit takes a 4-1 overall and 3-1 league record into the Christmas break.
