Summit teams split games
The Summit boys and girls basketball teams each split a pair of league games last week.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7 the girls beat Nezperce 30-24 at while the boys lost 42-47.
On Thursday, Jan. 9 the boys beat Kendrick 63-38 while the girls lost 51-33. All the games were played at the Prairie Elementary gym in Cottonwood.
Girls vs. Nezperce
In the girls game against Nezperce, Summit broke open a tight defensive struggle with a big fourth quarter. Summit trailed 15-17 after three quarters but broke loose to outscore the Indians 15-7 in the final quarter.
Nezperce had led 2-7 after one quarter and 8-9 at the half.
Sarah Chmelik topped the Patriots in scoring with 8 points with Rachael Frei, Megan Seubert and Megan Rehder scoring 6 points each. Ally Hale added the other 4 points.
The big difference for the Patriots came at the free throw line where they hit 13 of 17 attempts while Nezperce hit just 3 of 11.

Boys vs. Nezperce
In the boys game Nezperce outscored Summit by 7 in the third quarter to take a 9 point lead into the fourth and then held on for the win.
Summit trailed 10-13 after one quarter but just 17-19 at the half. 
Josh Lustig led the Patriots in scoring with 14 points with Michael Waters scoring 10, Tyler Krogh 6 on a pair of 3-pointers, Matthew Schwartz 5, Patrick Chmelik 4 and Nathan Beckman 3.
Nezperce got big games from Kristian Carpenter, 18 points, and Tanner Wahl, 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Girls vs. Kendrick
The Summit girls have just 2 losses so far this season and both have come against Kendrick.
Kendrick jumped out to a 9-17 lead after one quarter and led 14-28 by halftime and 24-42 after 3 quarters.
Freshman Hale led the Patriots in scoring with 10 points with Seubert scoring 9, Rehder and Chmelik 6 each and Waters 2.
Summit is now 10-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Boys vs. Kendrick
The boys team completed a season sweep against the Tigers by using a huge second quarter to take control.
The score was tied at 11-11 after one quarter but Summit outscored the Tigers 22-4 in the second to take a 33-15 halftime lead.
They extended the lead to 48-26 after three quarters and played even through the fourth.
Waters broke loose for 23 points to lead the Patriots with Matthew Schwartz scoring 13. Chmelik scored 8, Lustig 7, Chris Osborne 6 and Dean Stubbers, Thomas Schwartz and Beckman each scored 2.
Summit is now 5-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.
