Lady Pirates to play Hagerman in State opener
The Prairie Lady Pirates look to have a tough draw in the opening round of the State Tournament, which gets underway this Thursday, Feb. 20 at Columbia High School in Nampa.
Prairie gets to play Hagerman, which is the only unbeaten team in the 1-A, Division 1 Tournament. According to Prairie coach Lori Mader, Hagerman has a 6’4” girl who is their leader. She’s a big girl apparently but is athletic enough to step out and hit an outside shot on occasion.
Looking at their scores during the season they tend to score in the 40’s and 50’s with a season high score of 58 points. In District they beat Challis 54-49 and Grace 52-49, the two other teams from Districts 4-5-6 to advance to state. Grace and Challis also made it to state last year while Hagerman did not.
Challis gets the honor of playing Lapwai in the opening round for the second straight year. They play at 1:15 p.m. (all times MST). Genesee plays Rimrock at 3 p.m. Those winners play at 6:15 p.m. Friday while the losers play at 1:15 p.m.
In the other half of Prairie’s bracket Grace will play Notus. Prairie would play at 8 p.m. Friday if they win against the Grace-Notus winner. If they lose they would play at 3:00 p.m. Friday.
The Championship game is 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Idaho Center while the consolation game is at 9 a.m. and the 3rd place game is at 11 a.m. The latter two games will be at Columbia High School.

Front from left are Coach Lori Mader, Hailey Danly, Shayla VonBargen, Krystin Uhlenkott, Kayla Schumacher, Kyndahl Ulmer, Leah Holthaus, Keely Schmidt, Natasha Gimmeson, Sky Wilson, Nicole Wemhoff and assistant coach Sarah Walsh.

All times indicated are Mountain Standard Time.
