Prairie girls team takes first at Hallissey Tournament
Fifteen young ladies representing the Tri-Parishes and the Release Time Program participated in the Catholic Hallissey basketball Tournament on February 14th through the 16th.
Competing against teams from around the state  they stepped up their game and won the championship.  Staying in the winners bracket all tournament and only playing four games to win the title.   An amazing effort and I hope a great learning experience for all of them.
The first two years that I coached we lost our Friday night game. This year, we won our first game on Friday night.   That set the tone and the level of play for the rest of the tournament.   Being led by 5 talented and motivated 8th graders.   Leah Higgins, Angela Wemhoff, Delaney Uhlenkott, Sydney Bruner and Alexis Shears.  Each one of these girls impressed me with their play and their efforts to be good examples on the court.  You should be very proud of yourselves.
Along with these five individuals, our team had ten 7th graders who all played during the tournament and in the championship game.  Each of them helped this team win the championship.  Those ten players are, Noelle Uhlenkott, Kate Lustig, Kendra Duclos, Jordyn Higgins, Emma Gehring, Sabrina Lustig, Madison Pecarovich, Hope McIntire, Theresa Wemhoff and Ellea Poxleitner.   I know that I’m excited about next years event and I hope that these girls will join me back at Hallissey next year.
Also needing mention were my two assistant coaches who helped at practices and did a fantastic job during the tournament.  Nicole Poxleitner with her ability to pump up the team but also showing support and calming the team down, especially during the championship game when the nerves were making players sick.  Chaye Uptmor who took on the offensive play calling and used her experience from last years tournament to keep the team pointed in the right direction.  Great job coaches.
So thank you to all those people who prayed for us this last weekend and those who traveled down to root for our team.   Also a big thank you to the Knights of Columbus for supporting our team and all the people in the community for your support.   God Bless.

The Prairie Released Time & Tri-Parish girls basketball team brought home the first place trophy at the annual Hallissey Tournament in Boise this past weekend. Shown are the team and the trophy. We understand the boys team took third while Summit’s boys team received the Sportsmanship Trophy for the second consecutive year. Photo by Lauretta Poxleitner.
