named Mother of the Year
Kellie Bruner was named Mother of the Year by the Prairie League at the recent Mother-Daughter Tea due to the essay submitted by her daughter Beka. That essay follows: 
To my dearest mother, As your young Junie Bug, I always looked up to you as a role model. I admired the way you smiled at everyone no matter if they were a stranger. I respected all the hard work you put into our hose and your job. I especially enjoyed your willingness to crease such special memories with me: dancing to Shania Twain in the living room, singing Amazing Grace before bed, etc. Now, thinking back, I realize how patient of a mother you were to let me have my giant sleepovers! Remember when you chaperoned one of those sleepovers, AKA Moss? Even though you were supposed to make sure we slept well, you allowed us to stay up and make memories with you. Thank you! Then I grew up to your Junie, and I realized your never ending motherly love for me through thick and thin. Through all of those ugly Jr. High fights I had in my class, you were always there to hold my hand and wipe my tears. I valued you expert advice and your warm hugs. However, I must admit that I did not always agree with your decisions, like the time you didn’t let me date the “bad boy.” But now, I can honestly say you were right and I was wrong. You saved me from some very bad decisions and I’m forever grateful. Now, as I write this letter, I’m your Beka June. Throughout high school, you have led me in the right direction and pushed me to be the best person I could be. You believe in me and support me in everything I do. Even though I mess up sometimes, you always continue to forgive me and help me learn the life lessons that come out of my mistakes. I’m so lucky to have a mom who will grab a coffee with me, go on a run with me, and even rock-out in the car with me! As I continue to grow older, and eventually move out, I know I will only seek more of your advice and your loving hugs. If I’ve learned anything over my high school career, it’s that mama knows best! You will continue to be my best friend and our relationship will only grow stronger. Thank you for loving me unconditionally, and I can only hope to be as great of a mother as you are some day.
