Lady Pirates win 2 of 5
This past week the Prairie Lady Pirates split 4 league games and lost 1 non-league game, losing to Genesee 0-5 at Cottonwood, Tuesday, April 29, sweeping Potlatch 15-6 and 12-2 Friday, May 2 at Lewiston then losing 10-11 at Troy Saturday, May 3. Finally they lost a non-league game at Colton Monday, May 5, 2-11.
Vs. Genesee
In the home game against Genesee Prairie struggled to find any offense as they put together 2 hits in an inning just onceHolli Uhlorn nearly let the ball come out on this catch in right field against Genesee..
Meanwhile their defense didn’t help them as 3 of Genesee’s 5 runs came as a result of errors.
Genesee scored twice in the first inning on a hit batsman and 2 singles and that was all they would need.
Sky Wilson led off the bottom of the first with a single to right and stole second but was stranded there.
In the second inning Sarah Seubert and Jessica Kaschmitter had back-to-back 2 out singles but neither was able to score.
Hailey Danly had a 2-out single in the third.
Natasha Gimmeson was hit by a pitch with 1 out in the fourth but was forced at second.
Wilson had a 1 out single in the fifth but was running with the next pitch which turned into a short fly ball out to the pitcher and a double play as Wilson wasn’t able to get back to first.
Needing 5 runs in the seventh to keep the game going Seubert had a 1-out single and advanced to third on wild pitches. Kellie Heitman worked a walk with 2 outs to put runners on first and third but a strikeout ended the game.
Prairie outhit Genesee 6-5 with Wilson and Seubert collecting 2 singles each while Danly and Kaschmitter each added a single.
Leah Holthaus allowed 5 runs on 5 hits with 1 hit batter, 5 walks and 10 strikeouts.
Prairie had 4 errors in the game to none for Genesee.

Vs. Potlatch
In the opening game against Potlatch, Prairie broke it open in the fourth inning. The score was tied at 6-6 after three innings but 4 runs each in the fourth and fifth turned it into a lopsided win.
Prairie pounded out 14 hits in the game with Danly, Seubert and Holli Uhlorn each collecting 3 hits. Seubert had a pair of triples and a single while Danly and Uhlorn had a triple and 2 singles each. Wilson added 2 singles while Holthaus, Tidwell and Heitman had a single each.
Holthaus gave up 5 hits and 6 runs in the game, but no runs scored after the third inning after a rocky start.
In the second game Holthaus bounced back with a 2-hitter as Prairie won 12-2 in five innings.
8 different players collected at least one hit in the second contest as Prairie had 12 hits. 
Gimmeson had a double and 2 singles to lead the hitting while Wilson had a triple and a single and Kaschmitter had a pair of singles. Danly had a triple and Holthaus, Uhlorn, Seubert and Faith Uhlenkott each had a single.
Holthaus struck out 12 Potlatch batters over the 2 games.

At Troy
In the final league game of the season with the #2 seed into District on the line, Prairie came up just short in a back-and-forth game.
Faith Uhlenkott is safe at home after scoring on a wild pitch as the ball gets away from Troy’s pitcher on an attempted tag.Prairie fell behind early as Troy scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first on 4 hits and an error.
Prairie finally got on the board in the third inning. Tidwell had hit a 1-out triple down the right field line but was put out at home as Holthaus attempted a squeeze bunt. Holthaus then came around to score on Danly’s double to the fence in right center.
Troy got that run back in the bottom of the inning on a double and single.
Prairie took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth. Gimmeson started things off with a looper over the second baseman. Kaschmitter then hit into what appeared to be a forceout but the second baseman juggled the catch and Gimmeson was safe. Faith Uhlenkott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Heitman then walked to forced in a run. Tidwell beat out an infield hit to score another run. Uhlenkott then scored from third on a wild pitch with Heitman going to third.
Holthaus reached on a fielder’s choice with Heitman thrown out at the plate. Danly then scored both Tidwell and Holthaus with a double to left to make it 6-4.
The lead didn’t last long as Troy plated 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth on a hit batsman followed by 4 straight hits.
Prairie tied it in the top of the sixth when Tidwell singled and went to second on an error. She went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Holthaus looped a single over the first baseman.
An error in the bottom of the sixth on what should have been the third out led to a 3-run rally by Troy that put them up 7-10 heading into the seventh.
Prairie rallied in the seventh as Gimmeson led off with a single to center and went to second on an error. She scored on Kaschmitter’s single up the middle. Uhlenkott forced Kaschmitter at second for the first out. After a second out Tidwell picked up her fourth hit of the game as she scored Uhlenkott with a double down the left field line. Holthaus singled to left to score Tidwell. Danly then came to the plate with a chance to put Prairie ahead and hit a deep fly ball to center that was caught just in front of the fence. A couple more feet and Prairie would’ve had a 2-run lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Holthaus hit the leadoff hitter, who stole second and went to third when the throw got away. Holthaus struck out the next two batters and appeared to get out of the inning with a ground ball to second but the ball went through and Troy scored the game-winning run.
Prairie had 12 hits in the game led by Tidwell who had a triple, double, 2 singles and 2 RBI. Danly had 2 doubles and a triple and 3 RBI. Holthaus had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Gimmeson also had 2 singles. Kaschmitter had a single and an RBI.
Holthaus gave up 14 hits with 1 walk, 3 hit batters and 7 strikeouts.

At Colton
At Colton Monday, May 5 Prairie led only after the top of the first inning, 1-0. Colton tied it in the bottom half of the inning and then took the lead with 4 runs in the third.
Colton made it 1-9 with a 4-run fifth.
Prairie finally plated another run in the 6th and avoided being mercy ruled as Colton scored just 2 in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-run margin.
Prairie had 6 hits in the game with Danly collecting a triple and Seubert a double. Wilson, Tidwell, Heitman and Hanna Ross each had a single.
Colton tallied 14 hits against Holthaus.

With Sky Wilson at high school rodeo, Kylie Tidwell stepped into the leadoff spot at Troy and had 4 hits including a double and triple.

Lady Pirates open District against Troy
The Prairie Lady Pirates are the third seed into the District Tournament and will open against #2 seeded Troy at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at Airport Park in Lewiston.
If they win they advance to the championship game against the Genesee-Potlatch winner on Friday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m.
If they lose they would play the Genesee-Potlatch loser, also at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The championship game loser will play the loser-out game winner at 7 p.m. for second place and a state berth.
The softball state tournament will be at the Quad in Caldwell May 16-17.
