Letters to the editor from this week's Chronicle:

To the Editor
According to a letter to the editor last week , mentioning our current Treasurer, it came across as very accusing. Checking with many people, it was just as I thought every thing was done the right way in that office, they all are doing a good job in the Treasurer’s office. The State doesn’t have any problems with the Treasurer, the people that hired her don’t have a problem, the office is audited every year and we would hear about it if it wasn’t right. And you cannot beat the customer service and the compassion given to our Seniors, thank you for that Deanna.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
I spend a lot of time working in remote places – interior Alaska, the Aleutians, lots of places where there are no roads and very limited access.  One of the first rules you learn when you begin working in places like these is, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’  Doesn’t matter if you think you can make it work better.  Doesn’t matter if you think your way of doing it would be more efficient than what’s there.  It’s ALWAYS a mistake.
That same principle applies to the primary race for County Treasurer for the Republican Party.  Our current treasurer, Deanna Hall, has filled that position admirably for almost two years.  She runs that office efficiently and with respect for her employees, other City Hall staff, and (most of all) the public she serves.  And, unlike many in office, she views herself as a servant of the public, not their master.  Deanna is also active in the community, supporting numerous party functions, and always with a smile on her face.
Deanna faces a contender in this election, someone who obviously believes she can fix something that, quite frankly, is running just fine and just the way Idaho County needs it to run.  I never see this contender at other Republican Party functions.  I’ve only seen her at a couple recent Central Committee meetings, where, surprisingly, she never seems to stick around to answer any questions.  Like the novice working in the bush, it seems she wants to fix something that doesn’t need fixing.
Let’s use what we know works, something that has a proven track record.  Please join me in voting to keep Deanna Hall working as our Country Treasurer on May 20.

I am the Prosecuting Attorney in Kootenai County, and I am writing to encourage voters to re-elect District Judge Jeff Brudie .Judge Brudie has, in addition to his normal duties, volunteered his time as a mediator in criminal cases here. These cases frequently involve serious charges, emotionally charged circumstances and/or complicated facts.
Mediating criminal cases is challenging because the mediator is called on to evaluate the outcome at trial, and the likely sentence. Judge Brudie has provided thoughtful, effective assistance in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each side’s case, discussing the likely sentence, and moving the parties toward resolution. Case settlements have saved Kootenai County the costs associated with a number of scheduled a jury trials.
I have known Judge Brudie for years. His experience, temperament, work ethic and commitment to justice have served the citizens well. Please continue that dedicated service by voting for Judge Brudie.

Dear Sir,
I am writing about the Idaho County Primary election and specifically the race for Idaho County Treasurer. The current Idaho County Treasurer is Deanna Hall. Deanna is a lifelong resident of Idaho County. When she worked with the “Circuitbreaker” program she was very responsive to the needs of elderly, disable and veterans participation in this program. Unlike her opponent, Deanna Hall has a personal concern for these people and not only “talks the talk” but she “walks the walk.” Deanna would go to the homes of shut-ins or people who just had surgery or otherwise were trapped in their home and could not get out to register for this program. This is an example of why Deanna Hall should retain her seat as the Idaho County treasurer. Deanna Hall is my choice for Idaho County Treasurer.
