Junior High track season recap
By Glenn Poxleitner
Another fun filled, physically challenging year is in the books.  Thirty 7th and 8th graders took on the challenge of participating in track this year.  Dedicated through rain and snow and even a few sunny days, each of these individuals push themselves to better their times and distances by being dedicated to practice.   I’m very proud of all of my athletes, they all bettered themselves and hopefully they all realized that with a little belief in themselves they can run or compete in any event.   I want to recognize all of these great young athletes and also a few outstanding performances.
The girl’s team was led by a great group of 8th graders.   Leah Higgins along with Sydney Bruner scored points in all the meets in the triple jump.   Leah was a valuable asset in the relays and Sydney took pride in the 75 hurdles.   Delaney Uhlenkott was our leader in the sprints, taking first or second in the 400 and 200 meters at every meet.   Sierah Poxleitner took last years’ experience and was outstanding in the shot put and discus.   Also competing in the throwing events were three other 8th graders who got better and better as the season went on.   Alexis Shears and Trista Latimer who put in the effort last year also and newcomer Sarah Ross.   Sarah also found the hurdles to be a motivating event which she showed some future talent if she wants to apply herself in high school.   One other 8th grader provided a spark for this team.  Meagan Hohman,   grew as a runner and as a consistent member of our relays.  I hope she continues to build in the confidence she gained.
The girl’s team also had some outstanding 7th graders.   They not only contributed but also showed glimpses of what could be a great team next year.    Jordyn Higgins, showed some natural ability to run  mid distance races and may have a future in the high jump.   Kate Lustig, brought her talents to the 100 and 200 meters and relays.  Hope McIntire tested out the sprints along with a long jump or two.   Madison Pecarovich brought a great attitude to this team and work ethic, and proved to be a fantastic 400 meter runner.   Tycie Peery, was never one to back down from a challenge, helping everyone to push themselves.   She ran sprints and threw the shot and discus.   Ellea Poxleitner, dropped time off her 100 meters as the season went on and was a valuable component of the relays.   Maria Schmidt, did well in the sprints and could be a rising star in the long jump for next year.   Kodie Tidwell, brought a talent in the hurdles that will be used again next year.  Along with many others she also went from telling me that she couldn’t run the 400 meters to thanking me for making her run it.
The boy’s team also had some 8th grade experience coming back.   Dereck Arnzen, pushed all season long and really did well in both the shot put and discus.   Hunter Chaffee, proved that the 400 is a mental race.  Blasting away on two great 400 legs at our last track meet.   Anthony Karel was another great surprise this season, taking the 800 meters school record and being a part of two boys relay records also.   Sean Spencer, also found the sprints to his liking, breaking the school record in the 100 meters and doing well in the 75 hurdles and long jump.
The 7th grade boys give me reason to really be excited about next year.   Garrett Crenshaw showed off an ability to run anything I asked him to.  One of those athletes who may surprise people next year.   Caleb McWilliams showed off his speed and jumping ability in the hurdles and also ran some outstanding legs in relays.   Devin Ross led the team in the jumping events, high jump, long jump and triple and could score big points next year.   Right in the middle of the jumping events also is Dylan Schumacher who also has some speed to add to the relays.   Spencer Schumacher proved to be a pretty good sprinter and helped two relays break the school records.    Paul Sonnen, also delivered in the jumping events and tested out the sprints.  Brylee Wood took on the sprints and jumping events and could really score some points next year with some hard work.
School Records broken this year include.    The boy’s 800 meter record is now owned by Anthony Karel at 2:27.94.    Also the boys 100 meters record is now 13.49 held by Sean Spencer.   The boy’s 4x200 meter relay record is now 1:52:80 held by Sean Spencer, Anthony Karel, Spencer Schumacher and Hunter Chaffee.    Also the Boys 4x400 meter relay is now 4:25.30 held by Caleb McWilliams, Hunter Chaffee, Spencer Schumacher and Anthony Karel.   In order these were broken by 2 seconds in the 800, 1 tenth of a second in the 100, one half second in the 4x200 and one half second in the 4x400.   Amazing efforts by all these athletes.
I would like to thank all of these great kids and also Don Curry my assistant coach for making this a great season.   I hope all you 7th graders will come back and do it again.   You along with the next class coming in should make for an amazing team.   Thanks and very proud of all of you!
