Blood drive falls short of goal
“We are sorry to say that the Cottonwood Blood Drive didn’t hit its goal for the second time in a row,” commented Brenda Kaschmitter, blood drive co-chair.  “We were told by the Red Cross donation director that this is a problem for all the area donation sites. But we still want to thank all those who took time out of their busy schedule to stop by and donate, we know that it can be a hardship, but it is very much appreciated.  We had 78 donors through the door and had 64 usable units, our goal is 75.”
“Once again a big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers; without them this blood drive would not be possible; Doris Sonnen, Marlene Jungert Judy Forsman, Theresa Uptmor, Bobbie Schmidt, Carol Lauer, VFW Post 491, and Melody Themes,” said Cheri Holthaus, blood drive co-chair.“The volunteer duties include, making lunch for the Red Cross workers, escorting donors, checking in donors and offering maple bars and juice. We have some of the best volunteers around.  Brenda and I would also like to thank our maintenance department who took time out of their day to help set up and to my husband Pat who helped take down the tables,” said Holthaus.
“We would also like to acknowledge our two first time donors; Beth Dinning and Tyler Hankerson; we are hoping they will become life-long donors no matter where they live,” said Holthaus.
Along with the first time donors there were several who received milestone pins.  Bill Uhlenkott received a 1 gallon cup and pin and Roger Kaschmitter received his 3 gallon pin.  Judy Uhlorn received her 7 gallon pin, Geralyn Jentges received her 8 gallon pin and Lisa Nightingale received a pin for donating 9 gallons; a very special thank you to all of these folks for their continued dedication to the Red Cross.
Brenda and co-chair Cheri Holthaus would also like thank the employees of St. Mary’s Hospital for their wonderful support of the blood drive by coming in and donating.  The hospital also purchases the maple bars the donors enjoy after giving blood.
The next blood drive will be held on September 30th.
