Raspberry Festival is Sunday
The 22nd Annual Raspberry Festival will be held Sunday, August 3, at the Monastery of St. Gertrude, 465 Keuterville Road, in Cottonwood. A benefit for the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, this family-oriented event features activities for the whole family, including a fun run and walk, arts and crafts fair, quilt show, kids’ carnival, live entertainment, cultural demonstrations and raspberry products.
The day’s activities will kick off with the 10K Fun Run (6.2 miles) or 5K walk (3.1 miles) at 8 am. The course begins at the Museum and takes runners and walkers over a pleasant, paved road to Keuterville and back. The quiet country road offers views of the Seven Devils mountains, the Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area, the Salmon River breaks and the Camas Prairie, making it one of the most scenic runs/walks in Idaho. Register online (www.MyRaspberryFestival.org) or the day of the event starting at 7 am. The race will be chip-timed and registration includes a t-shirt and post-race refreshments. A hearty pancake breakfast will be served outside the Museum, 8-10 am, featuring pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs.
A quilt show celebrating the talents of local artisans will be on display at Spirit Center. Entries to the quilt show are being accepted until Saturday, August 2 at noon. For more information and to register, visit www.MyRaspberryFestival.org or call 208-962-5063.
Festival attendees can shop the arts and crafts fair, where vendors will have handicrafts and other homemade items on display. There will also be live music and a DJ throughout the day. The centerpiece of the festival is lunch, with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, barbecue beef sandwiches, and Raspberry Shortcake served on the Monastery lawn.
The Monastery of St. Gertrude is a Benedictine community that has been in Cottonwood, Idaho for 107 years and consists of 47 sisters and nearly 80 oblates (lay members) throughout the Pacific Northwest. Expressing the 1,500-year-old tradition of Benedictine hospitality, the community welcomes over 10,000 people each year for retreats, musical events, visits to the Historical Museum, and Raspberry Festival -- the largest single Monastery event of the year. All are welcome!
