School Board meets
The school board held their regular August meeting Monday, August 18.
They reluctantly accepted the resignation of Jr./Sr. High  School Special Ed teacher Janice Baldus who is taking a similar position in Nezperce, where she lives. They will now have to fill that position, hopefully before school starts.
Also approved were the bus routes, printed below.
The Strategic Plan was discussed. This is on the school website at sd242.org and there is capacity for patron comments.
The District and School Handbooks were approved with about the only change being the concussion policy and the policy that you cannot change sports in midseason.
The board also approved the Elementary and Junior/Senior High School schedules.
The District Back to School meetings were discussed. They will take place Aug. 25-27 at the Elementary School. Board members were invited to attend any of the sessions. Things will conclude with an Open House at the Elementary School Wednesday, Aug. 27.
CIPA regulations were approved. These have to deal with Internet access for students at the schools. Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann explained that they have everything in place to block inappropriate website access on school computers. Unfortunately they cannot do much about smartphones.
Safety Busing was approved for students being picked up at The Hangout and the old elementary school.
In the facilities update Forsmann noted the crew has been working hard to remodel and get the schools ready for the new year. At the Elementary School 7 classrooms have been painted and new cabinets added. The football field house has been painted with new art teacher Shane Chapman redoing the Pirate logo and Home of the Pirates wording. The baseball dugouts have been painted. A sink was added to the teacher’s lounge and Andrea Brannan, teaching 2nd grade, was moved to the extra room on the lower floor.
At the high school the science room’s new cabinets and science tables have been installed. Krystal Ellis’ room has been painted and rearranged. Special Ed has been moved to the top floor in the old computer lab. Gear-Up has been moved to the old Special Ed room. There are new tables in the kitchen.
In admin reports Forsmann noted the Elementary staff will be working security and cleanup at the Fair. The Elementary Open House and Book Fair is Aug. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
She talked about the new licensure procedure proposed. This wouldn’t likely take effect until 2016. It was one of the recommendations of the state Task Force Committee. The SBAC test taken last year has been renamed the ISAT 2.0. She wanted to note they are not going back to the original ISAT even though they are calling it an ISAT,
Carrie Nygaard reported registration went well with nearly all students attending.  The parent/student athlete meeting that evening also went well with a strong turn-out to pick up information.
A first aid/CPR training for coaches and bus drivers will be held Aug. 26 at the high school gym.
She also wanted everyone to take note of Holli Uhlorn’s senior project which was to beautify areas outside the gym and in the bus loading/unloading zone.
She also noted that high school volleyball starts with a jamboree at Grangeville Monday, Aug. 25. High school football starts Sept. 5 at Genesee, junior high girls basketball starts Sept. 8 with a home game against Sts. Peter & Paul and junior high football starts Sept. 11 with a game at Lewis County.
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
The next meeting will be Monday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
