Summit wins volleyball opener at Kamiah
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots opened their season with a 3-game sweep at Kamiah Thursday, August 28.
The beat the Kubs 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 in a non-league matchup.
Summit has just 7 girls out for the team this season and all got plenty of playing time. They are Megan Seubert, the lone senior; Ashlee Stubbers, Kaitlyn Stubbers and Rachel Waters, juniors; Ally Sonnen, sophomore and Lucy Osborne and Lauren Stubbers, freshmen. Heidi Waters returns as the head coach while Allen Sonnen takes over as assistant coach.
In the first game Summit fell behind 2-4 but Seubert served up 5 straight points to give them the lead. She had 4 aces and Sonnen added a kill.
Summit built on their lead through the rest of the game with Seubert adding a pair of kills during Sonnen's 3-point service run and Waters serving 2 aces followed by a kill from Seubert and Waters made it 23-11 with a second touch push over the net.
Ashlee Stubbers scored the game ending kill.
The second game saw Kamiah build a 9-15 lead before bricking a serve. That send Kaitlyn Stubbers to the service line and 3 aces plus a pair of stuff blocks by Seubert later, Summit had tied the score.
Kamiah took back the lead but Summit took their first lead since 2-1 when Seubert scored a kill during Waters serve to make it 18-17.
Kamiah tied it at 18 but then bricked a serve putting Seubert on the service line. She served up 5 straight aces to get to game point before Kamiah scored the sideout. Hale scored the game winning kill on a tip.
In the third game Summit took the lead on a 5-point service run by Seubert at 8-4. She had 3 aces and Sonnen scored a pair of tips.
Kamiah came back to tie it at 9-9 before Lauren Stubbers scored a back row kill to put Summit ahead for good.
Osborne then served 5 straight to give the Patriots at 15-9 lead. Sonnen scored 3 kills during the run with Osborne adding an ace and Kaitlyn Stubbers a kill.
Summit led by as many as 8 points at 21-13 before setting for another 25-20 win to clinch the match.
For the match Seubert had 14 kills which included 3 stuff blocks, plus 13 aces and 2 assists. Sonnen had 13 kills and an ace. Waters had 26 assists, 2 kills and 2 aces. Lauren Stubbers had 3 kills, an assist and an ace. Kaitlyn Stubbers had 2 kills and 4 aces. Ashlee Stubbers had a kill and an assist. Osborne had 4 aces.
Summit is 1-0 on the season.
