Lady Pirates win 2 matches
The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of White Pine League matches on the road this past week, winning in 4 games over Clearwater Valley at Kooskia on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and sweeping 3 games at Potlatch on Thursday, Sept. 11.
At C.V.
Prairie dropped the first game 20-25 but came back to win three straight by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-9 to win at C.V.Kayla Schumacher tips the ball over against C.V. as Holli Uhlorn and Hailey Danly watch and get ready for a possible return.
Prairie started well with Kayla Schumacher scoring kills for 4 of Prairie’s first 5 points. Prairie took a 12-6 lead on a kill by Shayla VonBargen but then C.V. got hot.
The Lady Rams’ Raelynn Schlieper put together a 7 point service run that gave C.V. a 13-15 lead and C.V. never trailed the rest of the game.
Prairie bounced back in the second game as Hailey Danly served Prairie to a 4-0 lead with 2 aces and a kill each by Holli Uhlorn and Schumacher.
The lead held at about 3 to 4 points until VonBargen served up 4 straight jump serve aces to make it 16-8.
Prairie was able to gradually build on that lead with a 24-11 advantage being their biggest of the game. C.V. scored a pair of points before VonBargen scored the game-winning kill.
C.V. started the third game with a 0-2 lead but Schumacher served up 2 aces to give Prairie their first lead at 4-3.
The game was mostly about sideouts as neither team could gain much of an advantage. The difference came when VonBargen served up 2 aces and Uhlorn added a kill for a 14-9 advantage. Prairie was able to lead by as many as 7 at 19-12 before C.V. finally put together a few service points of their own to cut the lead down to 20-19 and 21-20.
A bricked C.V. serve was followed by an ace by VonBargen. After trading sideouts, Uhlorn scored the game-winning kill.
Prairie pretty much dominated the fourth and deciding game. Two kills by Uhlorn and another by Natasha Gimmeson with Danly serving put Prairie up 3-0. After a C.V. sideout, Schumacher scored a kill to put herself on the service line. At that point, Krystin Uhlenkott, who had been kind of quiet during the match, took over at the net, scoring 4 kills to go along with the 7 aces Schumacher had to give Prairie a 15-1 lead.
Prairie outscored C.V. just 10-8 the rest of the game but it was good enough for a 16-point win.
Chaye Uptmor goes for a kill from the back row as Natasha Gimmeson watches. For the match we had Schumacher with 15 kills, 2 assists and 12 aces. Uhlenkott had 15 kills, including 2 stuff blocks along with 4 aces. VonBargen had 14 kills, including 2 stuffs, 1 assists and 7 aces. Uhlorn had 10 kills, including 2 stuffs. Gimmeson had 3 kills, 16 assists and 1 ace. Danly had 2 kills, 32 assists and 4 aces. Chaye Uptmor had 1 assist and 3 aces.
The JV team won all three games by scores of 25-2, 25-12 and 16-14.
Angela Wemhoff got them off to a great start in the opening game with 5 straight aces to start the match. She would add 4 more aces while Mykaela McWilliams would add 2 kills and Darlene Gehring and Sydney Bruner would each add a kill as Prairie was up 13-0 before Wemhoff finally missed on a serve.
C.V. missed their serve and Gehring sever up 2 aces before missing a serve. C.V. again missed their serve and McWilliams then served out the game with 8 straight aces.
The second game was much more competitive as C.V. jumped out to a 1-5 lead.
Wemhoff scored the sideout to put Sierra Latimer on the service line and 5 aces later Prairie was in the lead 7-5.
C.V. was able to tie it at 10-10 but a kill by McWilliams and 2 aces by Sam Remacle put Prairie up for good.
McWilliams took over the serve after a kill by Latimer made it 14-11 and 5 aces later Prairie was up 19-11.
After a trade of sideouts, Leah Higgins was able to serve out the game. She had 3 aces including the match-clinching one while Josie Peery and Latimer each added a kill.
In the third game Prairie took a 2-0 lead on 2 aces by Wemhoff and led until C.V. took a lead late at 10-13.
After 3 straight bricked serves, Wemhoff took over and served out the match. She had 3 aces while also mixing in a second touch tip that resulted in a kill as Prairie won 16-14.
At Potlatch
At Potlatch the Lady Pirates swept the Loggers but it wasn’t that easy as the scores were 25-14, 26-24 and 25-17.
Several errors late in the second game allowed the Loggers to come from behind and tie the score at 24 but with VonBargen serving Prairie was able to close out the game.
VonBargen had 10 kills and 4 aces while Danly had 17 assists and 18 digs. Uhlenkott had 8 kills, 5 aces and 4 digs.
No JV score available.
Prairie is now 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
Krystin Uhlenkott goes for a spike at C.V. as Hailey Danly, left, and Shayla VonBargen watch.
