Board games help apply math skills
Remember when you were a kid and you played all sorts of board games and cards?
It seems that has been replaced with other things. This summer the Prairie Elementary teachers took a math class and one thing they found was that many students have a weakness in number sense. How do kids get better at number sense? Well, in the 5th and 6th grade they will be transported back to a time when board and cards games were the fashion.
Brandy and Dale McElroy graciously donated 25 games to Mrs. Sonnen’s classroom. The games that were purchased are ones that support math thinking, math reasoning and math strategies. How fun is it when you can win a card game and you just used your adding and subtracting skills or beating mom or dad in a game of cribbage. This can’t be math the kids will say, OH, but it is and what fun math can be on a family game night!  We are so thankful that the McElroy family supported this idea and we cannot wait to start taking them home and playing them with our families and friends.  LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!
