Children's walkathon planned
In an effort to help the children in our area become healthier St. Mary’s Hospital has joined the Children’s Healthcare Improvement Collaborative; CHIC.  CHIC is a collaborative effort between Idaho and Utah to improve health outcomes and satisfaction among children and families in both states. The five-year project is federally funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services through the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act.
As part of this collaboration SMH would like to invite children of all age and their families to participate in monthly challenges.  The kickoff event will be a Walk-a-thon held on October 11th from 10:00 to 11:00AM at the Prairie football field.  Children of all ages are invited to attend and are asked to bring their families.  Healthy snacks will be provided after the walk.  There is no need to register and there is no fee.  Prizes will be given out during the event.
One of St. Mary’s Hospital’s goals with this project is to help children learn that exercise can be fun and to introduce them to healthy foods which also taste good.  St. Mary’s Hospital will develop monthly challenges geared to our pediatric population, but encourage anyone interested in bettering their health to participate.  We will post each challenge in our clinics as well as the newspaper.
Parents are encouraged to do these challenges with their children.  Children under the age of twelve must be accompanied by an adult at the walk-a-thon.
