wins 2 of 4 matches
Summit Academy split their 4 matches this past week, winning 1 of 3 league matches while winning a non-league match. On Tuesday, Oct. 7 they lost in 3 games at Deary by scores of 16-25, 11-25, 22-25. On Thursday, Oct. 9 they beat Timberline at Craigmont, no scores available. On Saturday, Oct. 11 they split a tri-match at Highland, losing a league match to Logos 11-25, 24-26, 12-25 then winning a non-league match against the host Highland Huskies 25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 25-22. Also, we reported they had lost to Grangeville in a tri-match there last week. They actually won a 3-game match 12-25, 25-16, 15-9. Thanks to assistant coach Allan Sonnen for setting us straight. 
With Logos defeating both Highland and Summit, the Knights wrapped up the White Pine League Div. 2 title with a 12-0 record. Summit gave the Knights a battle as the first game was back and forth with several lead changes until Logos found a hot server. Highland had just taken a 10-9 lead on a service ace by Rachel Waters. Logos then scored the sideout to tie the game and then scored the next 14 straight points with Lizzie Schlecht serving. She finally missed a serve but Logos then was able to score the sideout to end the game. Logos jumped out to leads of 1-5 and 4-13 in the second game and still led 8-17 when Megan Seubert scored a sideout kill. Watters served up 3 aces and Seubert added another kill to cut the lead to 13-17. After a trade of sideouts Seubert served 3 aces with Ally Sonnen adding a pair of kills to give Summit their first lead of the game at 19-18. They had the first chance at game point with Nachi Garcia serving up an ace to give Summit a 24-22 lead. They couldn’t put the game away though as Logos came back with 4 straight points to win the game. In the third game Summit took a 2-0 lead on an ace by Waters and a kill by Seubert but that Logos then scored 7 straight. Summit was able to pull back within 2 after another ace by Nachi Garcia made it 8-10 and again at 9-11 on a kill by Lucy Osborne. Logos scored 9 of the next 10 points thought to take control of the game and then finished off the match. For the match Sonnen had 9 kills including 3 blocks. Seubert had 6 kills and 4 aces. Osborne had 4 kills. Waters had 1 kill, 16 assists and 7 aces. Stubbers had 1 kill, 1 assist and 2 aces. Garcia had 2 aces. Summit dominated the opening game as Highland missed the opening serve and Waters served up an ace and Seubert scored a kill for a 3-0 lead.  Summit
kept Highland from cutting very much into the lead by siding out well when
the Huskies served and adding an extra point here and there on their own
serve.
Nobody had any big service runs but Summit was able to steadily add to their lead until building the 11 point final margin. In the second game Highland took the early lead on 3 straight aces by Kaitlynn Connerly at 7-10. Their biggest lead came at 8-12. A bricked serve scored the sideout and Sonnen served Summit back into the match thanks to dominate net play by Seubert who scored on two blocks and a kill and a fourth point came on a back row free ball by Sonnen. That gave Summit a 13-12 lead and they never trailed again in the game. Highland tied it at 13 but Osborne scored a kill for the sideout and then served 5 more to put Summit up 19-13. She had 2 aces while Seubert added a pair of kills. Highland pulled back within 1 at 20-19 but then bricked a serve and Summit was able to outscore the Huskies at the end to win by 4. The third game was close until Highland’s Morgan Connerly put together 4 straight aces to help turn an 11-12 lead into an 11-18 lead. Highland went on to win the game by 10. In their first match of the year Highland had lost the first two games to Summit then won the next 3. It looked like they may do that again as the Huskies jumped out to a 5-7 lead. Summit came back to score the next 8 points though with Osborne serving 7 of those. Osborne had 4 aces while Seubert had 2 kills and Lauren Stubbers added another as Summit took a 13-7 lead. Highland was able to get back within 2 at 19-17 but Summit then pushed it back to 6 at 24-18. The Patriots struggled to get the match winning point though as a hitting error followed by 3 straight Highland aces cut the lead to 24-22 before Highland gave the match away with an out of bounds serve. For the match Seubert had 20 kills including 3 blocks plus 2 aces. Sonnen had 14 kills including 3 blocks plus 2 aces. Stubbers had 7 kills and 6 aces. Osborne had 3 kills, 3 assists and 7 aces. Waters had 1 kill, 26 assists and 6 aces. Nachi Garcia had 1 assist and 1 ace while Coco Garcia had 2 service winners. Summit is now 7-9 on the season and 3-8 in league play.  Summit to play Saturday at District Summit will be the #5 seed into the District Tournament and will play #4 seeded Nezperce at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the LCSC Activity Center. If they win that match they would play #1 seeded Logos later that evening at 8:30 p.m. If they lose they will play a loser-out match on Monday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. If they beat both Nezperce and Logos they would play again at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. If they beat Nezperce and lose to Logos they would play again on Monday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. If they lose to Nezperce and win on Monday they would play again on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. There will be at least two and possibly 3 matches on Thursday, Oct. 23. At 6 p.m. the early Tuesday loser would play the late Tuesday winner at 6 p.m. That winner would play the lone unbeaten team at 7:30. If necessary there would be another championship match immediately following. The first place team advances to State while the second place team would have to win a play-in match at McCall-Donnelly on Saturday, Oct. 25 to advance to State. State will be at Declo Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
