Deary ends Summit's season
Summit’s run at the 1-A, Division 2 district tournament came to an end Tuesday, Oct. 21 when they fell in 3 games to Deary. That left the 5th seeded Patriots with a 4th place finish in the tournament.Megan Seubert pushes the ball over against Deary as Rachel Waters and Ally Sonnen watch.
Deary won by scores of 25-27, 11-25, 18-25.
Summit started well as Rachel Waters served them to a 3-0 lead with Megan Seubert scoring a pair of kills and Waters adding an ace.
Deary came back though to take a 5-6 lead. They then bricked a serve and Lauren Stubbers served the Patriots back to a 10-6 lead with an ace plus 3 kills by Ally Sonnen.
Eventually Deary tied it again at 13-13 but Summit was able to push the lead back to 4 at 18-14.
Summit held the lead and had a double game-point chance at 24-22 after a kill by Sonnen. Deary answered with consecutive kills by Kelsey Scott that tied the score at 24-24. Summit called a timeout and Deary served the ball in the net for another game-point chance at 25-24. Unfortunately Deary came right back with 3 straight points to steal the win from Summit.
Losing a game they led most of the way seemed to deflate the Patriots as they fell behind 0-7, 2-10 and 3-13 in the second game and never could climb out of the hole as Deary won easily.
The third game started similarly as Deary took leads of 0-4, 1-9 and 2-13.
Down 5-18 Summit began to rally with Waters serving. Seubert scored the kill for the sideout and Waters served up 3 aces while Seubert scored a pair of kills and Sonnen added one from the back row to cut the lead to 12-18.
Deary was able to get the sideout  and took control the rest of the game to win by 7 points.
Sonnen led in kills with 15 including a block plus 2 assists and 2 aces. Seubert had 10 kills plus an ace. Lauren Stubbers had 4 kills, an assist and 3 aces. Waters had 2 kills 24 assists and 5 aces. Ashlee Stubbers had an assist and an ace. Lucy Osborne had 1 kill.
Summit ends their season with a 10-11 record.
Ally Sonnen winds up for a spike as Lauren Stubbers and Megan Seubert watch.
Lauren Stubbers goes for a spike against Deary as Rachel Waters watches after making a set. Behind Waters is Lucy Osborne.
