Lady Pirates win twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates opened their season with a pair of wins. They won their opener over Highland at Craigmont 55-20 and then came from behind to beat the Lewiston JV 61-60 at Lewiston.
At Highland
It took a bit to find the shooting touch in the opener at Highland Tuesday, Nov. 18 but their defense was strong as they forced 12 first quarter turnovers and built a 13-2 lead by the quarter break.Kayla Schumacher passes ahead to Krystin Uhlenkott after making a steal at Highland.
Krystin Uhlenkott scored 5 first quarter points while Kayla Schumacher and Angela Wemhoff added 4 points each.
Schumacher, Hailey Danly and Sarah Seubert each scored in the second quarter as Prairie opened the lead up to 19-4. 
Highland’s Emma Johnson then scored 6 straight points to cut the lead to 19-10 but Prairie answered by finishing the half with a 10-2 run with Uhlenkott scoring 6 of those points as the Pirates took a 29-12 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw Prairie outscore the Huskies 21-4 with Danly scoring 10 of those points including a pair of 3-pointers.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and Prairie subs getting much of the playing time.
Uhlenkott wound up with 13 points to lead all scorers. Danly and Schumacher added 12 each with Wemhoff scoring 8, Seubert 4, Josie Peery 3 and Shayla VonBargen, Chaye Uptmor and Talyss Lustig 1 each.
Prairie held a 42-34 rebounding edge with Schumacher pulling down 13 to lead the Pirates. 
Prairie forced 35 turnovers with Uhlenkott collecting 10 steals, Danly 5 and Uptmor and Schumacher 4 each. 
Danly added 7 assists.
Prairie was 21 for 58 from the field, 36%, and 10 for 19 at the line, 53%. Highland was 8 for 37 from the field, 22%, and 3 for 6 at the line, 50%.

At Lewiston JV
The game at the Lewiston JV Thursday, Nov. 20 was a different story as Prairie found themselves trailing most of the game.
Lewiston took a 12-19 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 25-32 at the half.
They lead 37-46 after 3 quarters.
VonBargen then led a big rally in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 of her 19 points in the quarter, including the game-winner from the free throw line. 
Prairie rallied to tie the game at 60 and VonBargen went to the free throw line with 6 seconds to play and made 1 of 2 free throws to break the tie and give Prairie the lead.
Schumacher wound up with 20 points to lead all scorers while Uhlenkott scored 15, Danly 4, Wemhoff 2 and Seubert 1.
Danly had 9 assists while Uhlenkott again led in steals with 7. 
In addition to their 39 combined points, Schumacher and VonBargen combined for 22 rebounds.
