Partnership for Youth
Cottonwood Police Department, Cottonwood School District 242, and St. Mary’s Hospital have joined forces in an effort to protect, safeguard, and mentor our youth.
For several years we have enjoyed the opportunity of having CPD Officer Jason Rambo present at sporting events, nighttime school events, checking the youth party spots, and providing general patrol in town.  Unfortunately, the state discontinued the grant that he was funded under, and the city was unable to raise the additional funding to continue his position.  The school was notified that it would be his last year, unless we could find funding.
Cottonwood School District 242, seeing and experiencing firsthand the value of having Officer Rambo available and helping in the schools, has agreed to assist with the funding of Officer Rambo’s position for another year!!  He will have a rotating shift working inside the school with youth of all ages, will be attending sporting events and after school events, and will also be providing some general patrol duties to the City.  Funding for this position is made possible through Safe and Drug Free funds provided by the State of Idaho.
St. Mary’s Hospital was contacted as another partner for support.  They agreed that having Officer Rambo work with the youth in the school is a benefit to all of our children, and is an expense that they would assist in providing for.  The concern of our youths health is a priority for St. Mary’s Hospital, and health includes mental, physical, drug and alcohol addictions, as well as many others. St. Mary’s feels having Officer Rambo work with our youth will help keep our youth healthy.
This mutual concern, this care and desire to help our youth, this communication and ability to work together, across assorted lines from government to private industry, is the reason we live in this area.  Neighbors helping neighbors for the common good.  The common good in this case is the safety and security of our youth; it doesn’t get more important than that.
Thank you to the administration at Cottonwood School District 242 and at St. Mary’s Hospital for supporting this worthy cause.  Your support is commendable.
