Summit mounts huge comeback to beat Logos in overtime
The Summit Academy Patriots’ only loss this year was to Logos and for 3 quarters it appeared the Knights were going to give them their second loss Saturday, Jan. 3 at Moscow, but a 16 point rally in the fourth quarter sent the game into overtime where Summit pulled out a 65-57 win.Summit’s Patrick Chmelik scores 2 of his 20 points. Tyler Krogh scored to open the game but Summit would not lead again until late in the fourth quarter as Logos answered with a 3-pointer that started a 2-13 run.
Summit trailed 8-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Patriots cut the deficit to 2 when Nathan Beckman opened the second quarter scoring with a 3-pointer but Logos then scored the next 7 points.
Logos went on to build a 16-30 lead late in the quarter before Patrick Chmelik scored a couple of baskets late to cut the halftime deficit to 20-30.
Summit never got any closer than that 10-point deficit in the third quarter and when Logos scored with 25 seconds left the Knights had their biggest lead of the game at 29-45.
The fourth quarter got off to a quiet start with Dean Stubbers making a free throw to cut the lead to 15. 
Logos then came downcourt and jacked up a 3-pointer which missed with Chmelik grabbing the rebound. That led to a Chmelik putback on the other end.
Another missed 3-pointer by Logos led to a 3-pointer by Krogh that cut the deficit to 10.
A steal by Krogh led to a basket inside by Josh Lustig.
Another missed shot by Logos that was rebounded by Summit led to a basket by Chris Osborne. 
Lustig then finished off a 12-0 Summit run that cut the lead to 4 when he put back his own missed shot with 3:25 left.
Logos broke the Summit run with a 3-pointer but Summit responded with a pair of free throws by Chmelik. 
A Logos basket pushed the lead back to 7 at 43-50 with 1:30 left but Chmelik scored inside 21 seconds later to cut the lead to 45-50.
With 50 seconds left Chmelik scored a pair of free throws on a flagrant foul to cut the lead to 47-50. With Summit also getting the ball out of bounds after the flagrant foul, Osborne scored on a feed from Krogh to cut the lead to 49-50 with 38 seconds left.
A steal by Krogh led to a basket that gave Summit their first lead with 14 seconds left at 51-50.
Summit fouled Logos’ Paul Ryan with 10 seconds left but Ryan was only able to tie the game at 51 as he missed the second attempt of a 1 and 1.
Summit then appeared to blow their chance of winning as Krogh and Lustig couldn’t connect on the inbounds pass Ryan’s missed free throw had gone out off of a Logos player.
Fortunately for Summit, Logos missed their game-winning shot attempt at the buzzer as the game went into overtime.
A putback by Chmelik opened the overtime scoring and Summit never trailed again.
Logos cut the lead to 1 but a steal by Thomas Schwartz led to a 3-pointer by Krogh that gave Summit a 4-point lead.
Logos cut the lead to 2 but Summit finished came back with a 5-0 run to lead by 7.

Krogh wound up as the leading scorer with 21 points and Chmelik added 20 along with 17 rebounds. The bulk of those coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Lustig also had a big game with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Osborne added 5 points and 14 rebounds. Beckman scored 3 and Stubbers and Schwartz 2 each.
Summit had a 60-43 advantage on the boards which was 29-12 in the fourth quarter and overtime as Chmelik, Lustig and Osborne seemed to come down with every missed shot in the final 12 minutes of play.
Krogh had 3 steals and Schwartz had 4 assists.
Summit was 22 for 70 from the field, 31%, and 16 for 20 at the line, 80%. They were 8 for 15 from the field in the crucial fourth quarter. Logos was 22 for 74 from the field, 30%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. They were 4 for 25 from the field in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Summit is now 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play.
In the JV game Summit kept it close until the game got away from them in the third quarter as they lost 38-47.
Summit led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter with Caleb Currier and Justin Wassmuth connecting on back-to-back 3’s to put them ahead.
Logos took a 15-19 lead at the half.
Summit tied it at 19 on a 3 by Currier and a free throw by Wassmuth but Logos then went on a 2-18 tear to take a 21-37 lead.
It was an 18 point deficit after 3 quarters at 23-41.
Summit rallied some in the fourth to get the final margin down to single digits but never got any closer than 7.
Currier scored 12 to lead the JV’s with Wassmuth scoring 9, Luke Schwartz 8, Jacob Stubbers 7 and Chris Osborne 2.
Stubbers had 14 rebounds to lead the Patriots but Logos had a 33-42 edge on the boards.
Currier had 6 steals and Stubbers had 4 assists.
Summit was 15 for 49 from the field, 31%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%. Logos was 22 for 61 from the field, 36%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%.
