Lady Pirates win 2 of 3
After a 2-week lay-off for Christmas break the Prairie Lady Pirates got back into action Tuesday, Jan. 6 with a 48-60 loss at Moscow. They followed that up with a pair of league home wins, 67-30 over Genesee Thursday, Jan. 8 and 64-34 over Potlatch Saturday, Jan. 10.
At Moscow
Prairie had beaten Moscow earlier in the season on their home floor but it was a different story at Memorial Gym on the U of I campus as Moscow forced Prairie into turnover after turnover, 36 according to coach Lori Mader.
Moscow took a 12-18 lead after 1 quarter and stretched it to 22-34 by halftime.
In the third quarter Moscow led by as many as 19 before a Prairie rally trimmed that lead to 37-43 late in the third quarter.
Moscow added a basket to make it 37-45 after 3 quarters and then held off Prairie in the fourth quarter.
Kayla Schumacher led Prairie in scoring with 18 points with Krystin Uhlenkott also hitting in double figures with 12. Shayla VonBargen scored 7, Chaye Uptmor and Josie Peery 4 each, Hailey Danly 3 and Kylie Tidwell 2.
No JV or C scores were available.

Vs. Genesee
Genesee may be the third best team in the league this year but there’s obviously quite a gap between them and the top two teams as Prairie proved with a 37 point win at Cottonwood Thursday, Jan. 8.
Prairie jumped out to a 17-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 39-18 by halftime. 
Prairie kept pulling away in the third as they outscored Genesee 19-10 to take a 58-28 lead into the fourth quarter which led to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Schumacher again led the scoring with 18 points with Danly also hitting double figures with 10. Everyone on the roster scored at least 2 points as Uhlenkott scored 9, Uptmor 7, VonBargen and Angela Wemhoff 6 each, Peery 3 and Natasha Gimmeson, Talyss Lustig, Sarah Seubert and Tidwell 2 each.
VonBargen had 8 rebounds and 6 steals while Danly had 8 assists.
There was no JV game due to illness leading to a lack of available players for Genesee.

Vs. Potlatch
The Lady Pirates had another blowout league win as they hosted Potlatch.Krystin Uhlenkott scores 2 of her 20 points against Potlatch.
Prairie jumped out to an 8-0 lead with VonBargen scoring 6 of those points on layups after Danly had opened the scoring with a driving layup.
Potlatch then rallied back with 5 straight points to pull within 8-5 but that was the last time Potlatch was in the game.
Prairie responded by ending the first quarter with a 15-1 run. Uhlenkott had 6 points and Schumacher 4 in that run that gave Prairie a 23-6 lead.
The second quarter saw each team have their runs. Potlatch cut the lead to 25-10 but Prairie then scored 8 straight, 4 by Wemhoff, to make it 33-10. Potlatch answered with 6 straight before Prairie scored the final 5 points of the half for a 38-16 halftime lead.
An 8-2 run to start the second half insured Prairie would keep a comfortable margin.
With 3:30 left in the third Prairie led 46-18. 
Potlatch outscored Prairie 2-6 to end the quarter and then scored the first 8 points of the fourth quarter to get their deficit down to 16 points at 48-32.
At that point Prairies kicked it back into gear and finished the game with a 16-2 run to win by 30.
Uhlenkott wound up with 20 points to lead Prairie in scoring with nearly all of those coming on transition lay-ups, either from her own steals or her breaking down the floor when someone else, in this game usually Danly, stole the ball.
VonBargen added 14 points, Wemhoff 13, Schumacher 10, Uptmor 4, Danly 2 and Seubert 1.
Prairie controlled the board 48-36 with Uhlenkott pulling down 10 rebounds. VonBargen added 9 and Schumacher 8.
Danly had 9 steals with Uhlenkott adding 5 and VonBargen and Schumacher 4 each. Danly also led in assists with 5 with Schumacher adding 4.
Prairie was 29 for 74 from the field, 39%, and 5 for 23 at the line, 22%. Potlatch was 13 for 39 from the field, 33%, and 7 for 9 at the line, 78%.
Prairie is now 12-2 on the season and 7-1 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie broke open a close game by finishing the half with a 10-0 run as they went on to win 42-23.
Prairie led just 11-6 at the end of the first quarter and Potlatch cut the lead to 11-8 early in the second quarter.
Potlatch did not score again the rest of the half as a steal by Leah Higgins that led to a basket by Delaney Uhlenkott kicked off the aforementioned 10-0 run. 5 different players scored 2 points each in that run as Sarah Seubert, Higgins and Ally Sonnen each added a basket and Selina Davila added 2 free throws. Prairie led 21-8 at halftime.
Sydney Bruner scored the first point of the second half to make it an 11-0 run before Potlatch broke through with a pair of free throws. Bruner, Sonnen and Davila then each scored a basket to push the lead to 28-10.
Prairie led 30-12 after 3 quarters.
Davila scored 8 of her game-high 12 points in the fourth quarter as Prairie held off Potlatch for the 19 point win.
Seubert added 9 points, Sonnen 6, Bruner 5 and Higgins, Talyss Lustig, Uhlenkott and Jade Peery 2 points each.
Prairie dominated the boards 59-31. Davila had 18 to lead the team with Sonnen adding 9.
Higgins had 6 steals and 4 assists while Lustig added 5 steals.
The JV’s were 11 for 53 from the field, 21%, and 8 for 19 at the line, 42%. Potlatch was 7 for 49 from the field, 14%, and 9 for 12 at the line, 75%.
