Library news
This week we have a couple of book reviews by Natalie Williams of new books in the young adult section.
The Maze Runner
by James Dashner
Now made into a film recently released from theaters, this Young Adult novel is about Thomas, who wakes up in a moving elevator, unable to remember anything but his name. Not where he came from, who he is, who his parents are . . . not even how old he is.
When the elevator stops, his new life begins. He's in The Glade, the one safe place in the middle of a vast maze, the place where hundreds of boys live and have survived for two years. And every day, for two years, runners have gone out into the maze. Looking for a way out.
No one has escaped yet. But Thomas will.
Defiance
by C.J. Redwine
Rachel lives in a future world laid desolate by the attacks of the Cursed One. Life is perilous outside the walled cities scattered across what used to be America. But it doesn't mean life in the cities is any safer.
When her father Jared, a Commander's courier, goes missing, by law Rachel must have a new Protector. And according to her father's will, it isn't Oliver, her surrogate grandfather, but Logan. Her father's apprentice and the young man Rachel was once in love with.
Logan was an outcast before he apprenticed to Rachel's father. But since then he's made a life for himself. He's kept his head down and worked hard. And then Jared disappeared. Not dead - but if Logan doesn't get to him in time, he will be.
