Hallissey boys take 2nd, receive Sportsmanship Trophy
When the boys headed to Boise on February 13th for this year's annual Hallissey Tournament, they knew they The team with the Sportsmanship Trophy and new Bishop Peter F. Christensen.would be playing 2 games right away Friday night.
They started the tournament against St. Joe's 8th grade squad, a team that boasts 17 players on their roster.  Our combined team of five 7th graders and five 8th graders were ready.  The Tri-Parish squad beat St. Joe's 8th in overtime 43-40 in front of many fans in their home court gym.  Next came St. Paul's in a late 9:00pm game, which was won handily with a score of 40-25.
Saturday the boys spent time cheering on the Tri-Parish Girls team throughout much of the morning as they weren't scheduled to play Sts. Peter & Paul until later that afternoon.  The Tri-parish boys kept it interesting with another overtime.  However, in the two minute overtime they held SPPS to no points while scoring 10 in a decisive win which led them to Sunday's championship game.
Saturday night at mass, celebrated by our new bishop, Peter F. Christensen, the boys were awarded the sportsmanship trophy.  This was the first time a boys team from the Tri-Parish received this award.  On Sunday, the boys knew they would be facing the same St. Joe's 8th grade squad that they had beaten in their first game in overtime on Friday.  The boys left everything they had on the court and came up a little short as they earned 2nd place, losing in the final game by five points.
The boys would like to thank their coach, Adam Forsmann who also coached them to a 3rd place win last year. Adam was assisted by Dustin Uhlenkott.  Both these coaches put in a lot of extra hours with this team of boys and were excellent models of sportsmanship.
8th grade team members include: Carson Schmidt, Devin Ross, Dylan Schumacher, Spencer Schumacher, and Michael Schwartz.  7th grade members included Damian Forsmann, Derek Shears, Hayden Uhlenkott, Reid Uptmor, and Sam Mager.
