Summit takes first ever boys District title
The Summit Academy Patriots won the first district title in the boys’ program’s history when they beat Logos 69-57 Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.Summit’s Patrick Chmelik swats away a Logos shot attempt in the District Championship game.
With the win Summit advances to the State Tournament in Caldwell where they will open against District 4 champion Carey at 8 p.m. MST Thursday, March 5 at Caldwell High School.
Logos took the early lead in the game at 4-8 thanks in large part to going 4 for 4 at the free throw line.
Josh Lustig and Chris Osborne each scored on a putback to tie the score and a steal by Dean Stubbers led to a lay-up by Tyler Krogh that gave Summit the lead. Two free throws by Krogh and another putback by Osborne completed a 10-0 run for the Patriots.
Paul Ryan of Logos stopped the run with a 3-point play but Summit made it a 17-3 run with another 7 straight points that gave them a 21-11 lead. A putback by Patrick Chmelik, a basket by Stubbers and a 3-point play by Krogh accounted for those 7 points.
Ryan hit a 3-pointer to finish off the quarter with Summit up 21-14.
Logos started the second quarter with a 2-9 run that tie the game at 23. Summit coach Ron Frei called a timeout and Summit came out of the timeout with a short jumper by Chmelik to retake the lead. 
Logos tied it again at 25 but Krogh scored on a short bank shot to put Summit ahead again and as it turned out for good.
Ryan scored on a free throw to cut the lead to 1 but Summit ended the half with an 8-0 run. Lustig scored again on a putback and was fouled, converting the 3-point play. Krogh then drove in for a lay-up to make it 32-26. After a missed Logos shot, Summit worked the clock down with Krogh sinking a 3-pointer from the top of the key just before the buzzer to give Summit a 35-26 halftime lead.
Summit then started the second half with 6 straight points to make it a 14-0 run overall. Lustig, Chmelik and Krogh each scored for the Patriots.
The lead stayed around 13-15 points until a late 0-5 run by Logos got the deficit down to 10 at 49-39 with 59 seconds left in the third.
Summit again worked the clock down for a final shot and Stubbers scored on a feed from Lustig to make it 51-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
Krogh hit his second 3-pointer of the game to open the fourth and put Summit up 54-39.
For the next 3 minutes of play though the momentum went to Logos as they scored 8 straight points to cut the deficit to 7 at 54-47. Another timeout by Frei led to a basket by Osborne to break the run. 
After a Logos free throw Osborne scored on a putback to put Summit back on top by 10 with 4:30 to play.
Twice Logos was able to cut the deficit down to 6 points at 60-54 and 63-57 but were unable to get any closer.
Logos took to fouling hoping for Summit misses that they could rebound but the Patriots connected on 11 of 16 from the line in the fourth quarter and wound up scoring the game’s final 6 points from the line.
Krogh wound up with 27 points to lead all scorers. Lustig added 14 points and 10 rebounds while Chmelik had 12 points and 16 rebounds. Osborne was a force on the offensive glass as 8 of his 10 points came on putbacks and 5 of his 7 rebounds were offensive boards. Stubbers added 6 points. Ryan led Logos with 22 points but 16 of those came in the first half.
Summit had a 42-35 edge on the boards.
Stubbers had 5 steals while Krogh, Lustig, Chmelik and Nathan Beckman each had 2 assists.
Summit was 24 for 56 from the field, 43%, and 19 for 27 at the line, 70%. Logos was 21 for 57 from the field, 37%, and 11 for 22 at the line, 50%.
Summit takes a 17-4 record into the state tournament.

Summit Jr. High Volleyball finishes 6-2
The Summit Junior High Girls’ volleyball team completed their season with six wins, two losses and 1st Place medals in the 7th Grade Tournament.  Coach Rose said the team did an excellent job serving and working together.  
“Next year, we will continue to work on the fundamentals which grow into good skills for future teams.”  
  Summit Academy is grateful for the work of Amy Rose, Coach; Ally Sonnen, Assistant Coach, Mrs. Gina Lustig, Record Keeper; and the many parents who attended throughout the season.  Thank you, Prairie Elementary School for hosting the 12 team tournament and championship game on February 28th.
