Summit students rally for Pope Francis
Summit Academy celebrated the two year anniversary of Pope Francis’ election to the Papacy.
On March 13, 2015, following morning prayers, the Summit students gathered in the gymnasium with yellow and white balloons, the flag colors of Vatican City.  Each inflated balloon contained inside a slip of paper with a fact about the life of Pope Francis.  In a moment and with great anticipation, the balloons were popped and the facts were read.
The following were some facts shared:
Recently, Pope Francis met with His Majesty Philippe, King of the Belgians, and Queen Mathilde; Pope Francis once had a girlfriend; he is a big fan of tango; he embraced and blessed a man covered in tumors and washed the feet of juvenile delinquents, including a Muslim woman; during college, Pope Francis worked as a bouncer in a Buenos Aries bar to help pay for his studies; and Pope Francis says, “the bishop does not gather the people around his own person or his own ideas, but around Christ present in His Word and in the Sacrament of His Body and Blood.”
Mrs. Gina Lustig, Formation Coordinator, led the talk on how Pope Francis has been a leader in showing how the Christian life should be filled with the joy and peace of Jesus.
