Levy set at $350,000
A resolution was approved at the March meeting of the school board to set the override levy request at $350,000, the same as last year. The levy election will be held Tuesday, May 19.
The positions of board trustees Gus Hoene and Pat Alfrey will also be up for election on May 19. Candidates have until Friday to file their petitions to get their names on the ballot.
Deanna Goeckner was approved for hire as the new cook for the school district.
The resignation of board member Lynn Guyer was accepted by the board and in a related matter Alfrey was voted in as the new vice-chairman, replacing Guyer.
Another resignation accepted was that of assistant girls basketball coach Sarah Walsh. The district will advertise for a replacement.
In the facilities update Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann asked for approval in purchasing a new phone system for both school buildings. Cost is estimated at just over $16,000. The person who took care of their current system is no longer able to do so. The system they are looking at could be upgraded to Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) if it is ever decided to go that direction.
Also approved for purchase was a trailer than can be used to transport the tractor/mower. Cost is $800.
Forsmann said she is gathering information on sewer and water options for the jr./sr. high school. She is mostly looking into possibilities.
She has had a couple of companies look at the high school roof problem. Both made similar recommendations. 
She said the proposed bus barn and shop is on hold for now pending the outcome of the Secure Rural Schools funding bills.
In her principal’s report Forsmann reported Taylor Riener competed at the Regional Spelling Bee at Lewiston where she was the youngest contestant.
Parent-teacher conferences are set for March 24-25 at both school buildings.
Spring break runs from March 27-April 3.
As superintendent she reported they signed a 4-month contract with ENA to continue broadband support for the remainder of the school year. Funding for this is a pass through from the state.
Carrie Nygaard reported they have 16 signed up for driver’s training.
The high school Showcase is set for Wednesday, March 25. 
21 students competed at State BPA March 5-6.
Junior high track practice starts March 18 with 21 signed up. High School track has 20 signed up with their first meet set for this Saturday at Lapwai.
Softball has 19 athletes turned out. She didn’t have final numbers for baseball turnout but at last report they had 14. Both of them were set to start play Tuesday, pending weather.
State FFA is set for April 8-12 at Twin Falls. Prairie had 11 students who will attend.
Prairie is hosting a higher education day for juniors with 3 other area schools invited. 7 Idaho colleges will be represented.
Prairie is also hosting an all-school dance on March 27. Expected to attend are Nezperce, Grangeville and Summit Academy with each school to provide their own chaperone.
The board adjourned to an executive session at 6 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, April 20 probably at 7 p.m.
