Lady Pirates win at Culdesac
The Prairie Lady Pirates built a 7-0 lead then held off a late Culdesac rally to win 7-3 at Culdesac Thursday, March 26.
Prairie got off to a good start when Kylie Tidwell led off the game by reaching on an error. She stole second and went to third on the catcher’s throwing error. She scored on Hailey Danly’s double down the left field line.
Prairie added to their lead in the third when Kellie Heitman reached on an error to lead off the inning. She scored on Tidwell’s double up the middle and Tidwell scored on Danly’s double to left that somehow got past 3 Culdesac fielders. Danly stole third and made it 4-0 when Hanna Ross singled her in.
Prairie added another run in the fifth when Danly beat out an infield hit, stole second and scored on Ross’ double to right center.
Prairie made it 7-0 in the sixth when Tidwell walked with 2 outs and Danly was hit by a pitch. Ross singled to left to score Tidwell and Danly scored on a throwing error back to the infield.
Meanwhile Faith Uhlenkott was dominating Culdesac through 6 innings allowing only 2 Culdesac batters to get as far as third.
She ran into trouble in the seventh when she gave up her first walk to start the inning. After a strikeout, Culdesac got a single and a double that scored 2 runs. 2 singles followed but only 1 run scored as a runner was thrown out trying to advance to third on the second single. Heitman then squeezed a flyball in center for the final out of the game.
Uhlenkott gave up 10 hits with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. 4 of those 10 hits came in the final inning.
Prairie meanwhile had 12 hits led by Danly who had 2 doubles and a single with 2 RBI and Ross who had a double and 2 singles and 3 RBI. Holli Uhlorn had 2 singles while Tidwell had an RBI double. Sarah Seubert, Faith Uhlenkott and Abbie Uhlenkott each added a single.
Prairie goes into Spring Break with a 4-1 record overall, 2-0 in league play.
