Vs, Potlatch
In a key league doubleheader against Potlatch, Prairie needed at least 1 win to all but clinch the #2 seed into district with just a league game against Genesee and 2 league games against cellar-dweller Nezperce left on the schedule.
They wound up with a 12-7, 16-11 sweep at Lewiston’s Airport Park Thursday, April 30.
Game 1
Prairie was the visiting team in the opening game and pounded Potlatch’s pitcher for 5 hits and 4 runs in the opening inning. Danly had a double. Hanna Ross followed with a triple and Sarah Seubert followed with a single. After a second out, Faith Uhlenkott and Holli Uhlorn each singled home runs.Kellie Heitman makes a leaping catch after a long run in the game against Genesee. Also shown is Abbie Uhlenkott.
Potlatch got 2 of those runs right back in the bottom of the inning due to 5 Prairie errors. They had a hit in the inning but it came after the damage had been done.
Prairie added 3 in the second for a 7-2 lead with 3 more hits and a hit batsman. Tidwell had a 1 out single and Danly followed with a triple that hit the base of the fence on the fly. Ross was hit by a pitch. Seubert grounded out with Danly scoring. Natasha Gimmeson then doubled deep to left to score Ross. Faith Uhlenkott followed with a single but the inning ended as Gimmeson was thrown out trying to score.
Potlatch got single runs in the second and third to pull within 7-4.
After a non-scoring third inning Danly led off the fourth with a double down the third base line. She scored on Seubert’s triple to the right center gap.
Potlatch matched that run in their half of the fourth but Prairie added 2 in the fifth. Uhlorn led off with a single up the middle and Abbie Uhlenkott did the same. After 2 outs, Danly got her fourth extra base hit of the game as she looped another double down the left field line scoring both runners. At that point Danly was 4 for 4 with 3 doubles and a triple and had seen only 5 pitches.
Potlatch scored 2 in their half of the fifth to make it 10-7 but that was the last they would score.
Prairie added a run in the 6th as Gimmeson walked and stole second. She scored on Abbie Uhlenkott’s single to right.
In the bottom of the sixth Faith Uhlenkott recorded her first 1-2-3 inning against the Loggers. It was also the first inning the Loggers didn’t score.

Game 2

Prairie got those runs right back though as Tidwell led off with a single. Danly reached on a fielder’s choice and Seubert hit an RBI single up the middle. Danly then scored on a passed ball and 2 pitches later Seubert scored on a passed ball. There was another ball to Gimmeson in between and when she drew what should have been ball 4, the home plate ump said the count was 3-1. Gimmeson eventually struck out looking on what in effect was a 4-2 pitch.
Sarah Seubert rounds first after hitting an RBI single against Potlatch. The second inning started badly with a pair of errors and Uhlenkott then started to show some fatigue as she walked 3 of the next 4 hitters then hit the next two for 4 runs by Potlatch. Coach Jeff Martin brought in Leah Higgins to pitch and after giving up an RBI single, she got out of the inning.
Down 3-7, Prairie came right back in the bottom of the 2nd. After getting an out, Potlatch committed a pair of their own errors as both Abbie Uhlenkott and Sam Remacle reached. After a second out Danly hit an RBI double to center. Ross followed with a single up the middle that scored both Remacle and Danly. Seubert tripled to right center to score Ross. Gimmeson walked and then she and Seubert pulled off a double steal as Seubert scored the go-ahead run.
Neither team scored in the next two innings and Higgins made it 3 zeroes in a row in the top of the fifth.
Prairie got back into the scoring column in the bottom of the fifth as Remacle led off with a single to left. Heitman went in as a pinch runner and stole second. An infield out moved Remacle to third. Danly was pretty much intentionally walked and stole second. Ross then hit a 2 run single up the middle and scored on Seubert’s second triple of the game, this one to the fence in left.
Potlatch changed pitchers and Gimmeson greeted her with a walk. A wild pitch scored Seubert with Gimmeson going to second. Higgins helped her own cause with a single to right center that scored Gimmeson.
Prairie took a 13-7 lead into the top of the sixth. Higgins started to show some fatigue as she suddenly lost the strike zone walking 4 of 5 batters and giving up a single for 3 runs. Uhlenkott came back in and got an RBI groundout and then a strikeout to end the inning with Prairie still up 13-11.
Prairie picked up 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth as Danly beat out an infield single to lead off the inning. After an out, Seubert reached on an error with Danly scoring. Gimmeson singled and Faith Uhlenkott reached on an error with Seubert scoring. Gimmeson scored on a double steal to make it 16-13.
In the top of the seventh the leadoff hitter tried to bunt her way on but Ross fielded the ball and threw to Gimmeson who was covering at first for the out. The next hitter singled but was thrown out trying to steal. After another single, the game ended on a groundout to Tidwell at short.
