Track team earns 8 state medals
Although the Prairie track team did not have a state champion for the first time in several years they did bring home 8 state medals from the State Track Meet, which was held at Middleton Friday and Saturday, May 15-16.Mykaela McWilliams was Prairie’s most decorated athlete at the State Track Meet earning 4 medals in 4 events. She had 2 seconds, a third and a fifth. She is shown with the third place medal for the 100 hurdles where she broke the school record.
Prairie’s top finishers were Mykaela McWilliams in the 300 hurdles and the 4x400 relay team which each earned a second place finish.
McWilliams took second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.83. She broke her own school record set last year at state with a 48.22 clocking in the prelims. She also broke Tabitha Sonnen’s school record of 15.75 in the 100 hurdles with a 15.64 clocking as she placed 3rd in that event. Sonnen’s record was set in 2007.
The 4x400 team of Delaney Uhlenkott, Chaye Uptmor, Shayla VonBargen and McWilliams placed 2nd with a time of 4:20.83.
Uptmor fought off the flu bug to earn a medal with a third place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:32.41. The illness got the better of her in the 1600 as she placed 15th with a time of 6:29.65 after running times right around 6 minutes all season. She came back though to gut out a strong leg in the 4x400. She scratched out of the 3200 on Friday.
Uhlenkott also earned a medal with a fifth placed finish in the 400 with a time of 1:03.02.
The 4x200 team of Uhlenkott, Nicole Poxleitner, VonBargen and McWilliams also earned a medal with a 5th place finish in 1:55.53.
As a team the girls placed 7th with 36 points.
Lucas Arnzen earned 2 medals in his 3 events as he placed 3rd in both the 200 meters and 400 meters. His 200 time was 23.78 and his 400 time was 51.67. He finished 8th in the 100 with a time of 11.69.
Ryan Glimp finished 14th in the discus with a toss of 115’2”.
As a team the boys were 17th with 13 points.

Nicole Poxleitner has just handed off to Shayla VonBargen for the third leg of the 4x200. They placed 2nd to qualify for State.
Mykaela McWilliams took the baton in third place in the 4x400 and took the lead with about 200 meters to go but didn’t have enough left to hold off Challis down the stretch.

Nicole Poxleitner and Shayla VonBargen used every bit of the exchange zone to get the baton handed off in the 4x200. Prairie finished 5th in the race.

As Potlatch’s Jenny Sapp wins the race both Mykaela McWilliams right, and the defending champ from Raft River, left, hit the final hurdle. McWilliams was able to stay on her feet and took 2nd.

Mykaela McWilliams placed third in the 100 hurdles at state but broke the school record in doing so with a time of 15.64.

Lucas Arnzen was barely edged out by Potlatch's Tristan Hites as he settles for third in the 200 meter dash.

Ryan Glimp placed 14th in the discus at State.
