School Board meets
Carrie Nygaard was approved as the new athletic director for Prairie Jr./Sr. High School at the May school board meeting Monday, May 18.
Nygaard will take over from Travis Mader who resigned from the position. Nygaard said she will get help from her husband, who filled a similar position at Kamiah for several years as well as Mader in getting up to speed.
The board also approved Matt Elven and Tori DeCaria as the new Student Council Advisors and DeCaria and Jennifer Heitman as the Drug Free Coordinators at the Junior-Senior High School.
Denise Mager was approved for hire as the Elementary School janitor. Laurie Lorentz will move to the Jr./Sr. High building to replace Sally Duman who retired.
Isaiah Shears was approved for hire as summer help.
Nygaard reported she has some options in mind for cheerleader advisor but wanted to see if they had enough interest to have a viable program first.
The board approved Presnell & Gage as the auditor. Their price would be 3% higher than last year.
Also approved was use of the football equipment during summer football camp.
The board approved submittal of a resolution to the Idaho School Board Association that would allow discussion of sale of a building to be done in executive session. The reasoning is that if you have to discuss what the lowest price you would accept is done in public session, that’s all you’re going to get as potential buyers would know how low they can go.
In the facilities report, Rene’ Forsmann reported they are looking at getting the summer projects started.
She also reported they have put in a request for 30 of the concrete highway barriers from Lewiston Hill which is getting repaved this spring. She said they are pretty well down on the list but have several ideas in mind for use if they do get some.
She also reported that when East Street gets worked on this summer they will add some of the BST product to the parking lots at the Elementary.
In administrative reports Nygaard reported the senior appreciation day will be Wednesday, May 27 with an awards assembly that morning, a barbecue for the student body and fun day at the softball fields.
She also reported there will be a foreign exchange student from Brazil next year. He would be staying with the Everson family.
The sober graduation disaster drill held at the school Monday went very well according to Nygaard. It was very realistic and very thorough.
On Tuesday, June 2 they will have the 6th graders come up to the school to get them started on their transition for next year.
Forsmann provided a list of dates of upcoming activities at the Elementary School. There will be a lockdown drill on June 1 at 9 a.m. at the Elementary School and a similar drill the same day at 10:15 a.m. at the jr./sr. high.
An awards assembly and talent show is set for June 4.
The board adjourned to an executive session at 7:40 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be Monday, June 15 at 7 p.m.
