Warbird Weekend cancelled due to scheduling difficulties
Due to scheduling conflicts for pilots and available aircraft, organizers for Warbird Weekend have reluctantly decided to postpone this year’s event, resuming the normal schedule for 2016.
Normally held the second week in July at the Idaho County Airport, Warbird Weekend was moved up two weeks this year to June 27-28 in anticipation of the federal runway reconstruction project, which is tentative to start July 6 or 7 and shut down fixed-wing operations through October. As a result, this earlier date came into conflict with other regional air shows, notably the Nampa Warbird Roundup.
“It wasn’t that we had a lack of pilots interested in coming to Warbird Weekend,” said event organizer Melisa Bryant. “It was just that they had prior commitments.”
Many were attending the Nampa show or had planned to attend other national shows, she continued, so with the limited number committed to Warbird Weekend and the uncertainty with others due to scheduling conflicts, it didn’t make sense – in maintaining past levels of exhibits and activities -- to run the annual Grangeville event this year.
Committee consensus last week was to postpone the event, continuing in 2016 with the second week in July date that has best worked with pilots and avoids conflicts with other regional and national air fairs and shows.
To keep up on plans, the public can visiting the event’s Facebook page – WarbirdWeekend.Idaho. For information, contact Bryant at 983-8302, melisa@ida-lew.org or Mike Cook, 983-1565, mcook@idahocounty.org .
