Pirates sweep Potlatch
The Prairie Lady Pirates remained unbeaten in league play with a 3-game sweep at Potlatch Saturday, Sept. 26 by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18. Chaye Uptmor was unavailable to play so coach Cheyenne Hudson experimented with some different lineups and got everyone some playing time. Prairie had no long service runs in the opening game but had enough 2 and 3 points runs to steadily pull away. 
Prairie scored 7 points in 8 serves to break a 4-4 tie. Krystin Uhlenkott scored back to back kills and Shayla VonBargen added an ace. After a sideout, Angela Wemhoff tipped the ball for a kill and then served 3 straight points, one on an ace with Uhlenkott adding a kill and Mykaela McWilliams a block for an 11-5 lead. Later Hailey Danly had 3 straight kills as Prairie took a 16-7 lead. Two aces by Sarah Seubert made it 21-9. An ace by VonBargen and a kill by McWilliams got Prairie to game point at 24-10. Potlatch fought off 2 game points before McWilliams ended it with another kill. Danly served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the second game with 2 aces and a kill each by VonBargen and Seubert. Potlatch came back to cut the lead to 5-4 and then played Prairie tough the rest of the way although they could never get over the hump and take the lead. Prairie had a 22-16 lead after an ace by Leah Higgins and a kill by Uhlenkott but Potlatch scored a sideout and then got 4 straight service points to cut the lead to 22-21. Danly scored a kill for the sideout but Prairie gave the serve right back as Potlatch made it 23-22. McWilliams then scored a kill and Sydney Bruner served up an ace to get the win. In the third game Prairie jumped on top 9-2 after 3 aces by VonBargen and led 13-4 after a kill by Wemhoff. Potlatch managed to get back within 4 at 15-11 before bricking a serve. A block and then a kill by VonBargen and an ace by Wemhoff put Prairie back up by 8 at 19-11. Potlatch got no closer than 5 the rest of the way with McWilliams scoring the match-winning kill. For the match VonBargen had 11 kills including a block and 10 aces. Uhlenkott had 11 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces. McWilliams had 9 kills, including a block and 1 assist. Danly had 6 kills, 23 assists and 2 aces. Seubert had 4 kills and 3 aces. Higgins had 2 kills, 6 assists and 3 aces. Wemhoff had 2 kills 6 assists and 2 aces. Bruner had 1 ace. Prairie is now 16-3 on the season and 6-0 in league play after picking up their 11th straight win. The JV team also won their match 25-16, 25-9, 13-15. The first game was a close, back and forth affair with Prairie trailing much of the way. Prairie finally tookthe lead for good when Darlene Gehring scored a sideout kill to make it 16-15 and Madison Pecarovich followed that up with 2 aces. After a sideout, Josie Peery scored a sideout kill and Gehring served the final 6 points of the game. She had 2 aces while Nicole Poxleitner notched a pair of kills and Peery scored the game-winning kill. The second game was close as well until Anna Vinsova put together a huge serving run. Potlatch bricked a serve, breaking a 6-6 tie and sent Vinsova to the service line. 7 straight aces later plus a kill by Gehring and another ace and Prairie was up 16-6. Pecarovich added a 3-point run that included 2 aces and Peery served up an ace to win the game and the match. The third game saw Prairie take the lead early at 6-1 after 3 more aces by Vinsova but Potlatch came back and took their first lead at 8-9. Prairie managed to tie the score at 10 and again at 13 but never led again as Potlatch salvaged a win in the third game.
