District starts Saturday at LCSC
The Prairie volleyball team will start District Tournament play this Saturday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.
Prairie will be the #1 seed and will get a first round bye. At 5 p.m. Saturday they will play the winner of the #4 vs. #5 match played at noon between Lapwai and Potlatch. The winner advances to the championship match on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. and clinches a trip to State. The loser plays at 7:30 Monday, Oct. 19 and if they win that will play for third place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. The third place team will play Wallace Satruday, Oct. 24 at Highland at 5 p.m. for a spot at State.
Troy will play C.V. and Genesee will play Kamiah at 2 p.m.
The 1A-D1 state tournament will be at Timberlake High School in Spirit Lake, north of Coeur d’Alene. Apparently the 1A-D1 tournament was supposed to be at LCSC but there were scheduling conflicts necessitating the move to another site.


Lady Pirates clinch league title
The Prairie Lady Pirates went 4-0 in league matches this past week and have clinched the league championship.Shayla VonBargen gets a spike past Troy’s 5’11” Abbie Blum.
Along with the league title they will have the #1 seed at the District Tournament, which gets underway Saturday, Oct. 17 at the LCSC Activity Center in Lewiston.
Match wins during the week were in 4 games over Troy at Cottonwood; in 4 games at Genesee and sweeps of Potlatch and C.V. at Kooskia.
Vs. Troy
The Lady Pirates beat Troy 25-22, 25-14, 21-25 and 25-13 Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Cottonwood. It is the first season sweep of the Trojans since Prairie joined the White Pine League.
Troy scored the first point of the night then missed a serve and Hailey Danly served Prairie to a 4-1 lead with 2 aces and a free ball kill.
Troy managed to keep it close the rest of the way but never could take a lead. Prairie led 11-6 only to have Troy come back to tie the game at 12.
Chaye Uptmor broke the run with a back row kill and Prairie managed to limit Troy’s serving runs and hang on for a 3-point win.
In game 2 Danly served Prairie to a 5-0 lead with aces plus 2 kills by Shayla VonBargen and another by Sarah Seubert.
Angela Wemhoff served 3 points to put Prairie up 12-5 with an ace and 2 kills by Mykaela McWilliams.
Troy got back within 3 at 17-14 but a kill be Krystin Uhlenkott sent Vonbargen to the service line and VonBargen had her jump serve working as she served out the game.  She had 5 aces including the game winner while Seubert and Uhlenkott each added a kill in VonBargen’s 7-point game-ending service run.
In game three Troy took only their second lead of the match at 4-5. They led again at 5-6 but 2 kills by Uhlenkott, a block by McWilliams and an ace by Uptmor put Prairie up 9-6.
Troy answered with a 2-7 run that gave them the lead for good.

A missed spike gave Troy a game point chance at 20-24 but VonBargen scored a kill to send Danly to the service line. Danly never got the chance to serve though as a substitution error cost Prairie game point.
Troy looked to tie up the match as they took an early lead in game 4 but a 4-point run by Uhlenkott put Prairie in the lead for good. She had an ace while Seubert added a pair of kills as Prairie took a 9-4 lead.
Troy was still within 5 late at 17-12 when Seubert scored a kill to send McWilliams to the service line.
McWilliams had 2 aces and VonBargen added 3 kills and Danly 1 kill as Prairie got to match point at 24-12. Troy got a sideout to end McWilliams 6-point run but VonBargen then scored the match winning kill.
For the match Uhlenkott had 26 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. VonBargen had 15 kills including a stuff and 6 aces. McWilliams had 11 kills including 2 stuffs with 1 assist and 2 aces.
Seubert had 8 kills and 1 ace. Danly had 52 assists, 5 kills and 6 aces. Wemhoff had 3 kills, 1 assist and an ace. Uptmor had 2 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces.
The JV team lost all 3 of their games, 14-25, 16-25, 9-15 and the C team also lost all 3 games.
At Genesee
Prairie clinched no worse than a tie for the league title with a 12-25, 25-9, 25-22, 25-22 win at Genesee on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Coach Cheyenne Hudson praised the team’s defense in their win as the Lady Pirates had 70 digs of Genesee serves and spikes.
Prairie had a rough first game offensively as Genesee dominated, winning by 13. Prairie came back strong in the second game, squashing any momentum Genesee could generate as they dominated with a 25-9 win.
The third and fourth games were good solid games with neither team able to take much of an advantage but Prairie was able to pull out both of them.
Uhlenkott had 17 kills and 15 digs in the game while Danly had 36 assists and 14 digs. VonBargen added 17 kills, 4 blocks and 9 digs while Uptmor and Seubert each chipped in at least 10 kills.
Genesee won the JV match while Prairie won the C match.
Vs. Potlatch at C.V.
Prairie swept the Potlatch Loggers in a tri-match at Kooskia Saturday, Oct. 10 as they won 25-9, 26-24, 25-15.Leah Higgins tips the ball over the net against C.V.
The win also clinched the league championship and the #1 seed at District.
Prairie dominated from the start in the opener as Danly served Prairie to a 5-0 lead with 2 aces, a stuff and a kill by VonBargen and a kill by Leah Higgins.
After 2 Potlatch points, Seubert served 3 straight to make it 9-2. Uhlenkott and VonBargen had a kill and Seubert had an ace.
Potlatch got within 9-5 but VonBargen then hit 3 straight jump serves for aces to make it 13-5.
Sydney Bruner later added a 6-point run that included 3 aces plus a kill each by Danly, Seubert and VonBargen that made it 22-8.
After a sideout, VonBargen scored consecutive kills and Danly finished it with an ace.
The intensity level dropped for Prairie in the second game and they experimented with a different lineup that led to some struggling. 
They took an 8-4 lead then saw Potlatch put together 8 straight points to take an 8-12 lead. During that run Prairie had 3 spikes into the net, 1 went long and another point scored on a double hit set.
Prairie fought back to tie it with VonBargen getting a stuff block and then a bad set by Potlatch saw her score a first touch kill where she slammed the ball straight down.
Prairie tied it at 14 with an ace by Danly.
Potlatch managed to keep Prairie from taking a lead though until a dig by Wemhoff found floor on the other side to make it 22-21.
Prairie managed to get to game point at 24-23 on a stuff by VonBargen but then missed a serve as Potlatch tied it. 
VonBargen then took over by scoring 2 straight kills to allow Prairie to pull out a 26-24 win.
In the third game Seubert had a 6-point service run that broke the game open. She had 2 aces while VonBargen had a kill and a stuff and Uhlenkott and Wemhoff each added a kill to make it 8-1.
Potlatch managed to get back within 9-6 but a 3-point run by Uptmor and a 4 point run by Uhlenkott pushed the lead to 18-7.
Potlatch didn’t get any closer than 9 the rest of the way.
VonBargen wound up with 25 kills including 4 stuffs. She also had 4 aces. Uhlenkott had 12 kills and 2 aces. Higgins had 4 kills and 2 aces. Danly had 3 kills, 32 assists and 6 aces. McWilliams had 3 kills including a stuff. Wemhoff had 2 kills and 5 assists. Seubert had 2 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Uptmor had 1 kill and 1 assist and Bruner had 3 aces.
At C.V.
Prairie finished up the day on Saturday with a 25-7, 25-6, 25-12 domination of the C.V. Rams.

After a pair of C.V. points, Seubert served 5 aces while VonBargen added a kill and a stuff and Higgins also had a kill as Prairie took a 12-2 lead.
After an 8-5 stretch, Danly went to the service line at 20-7 and served 5 straight true aces that either found floor or couldn’t be handled by the serve receiver to finish the game.
Danly then started the second game with 4 more aces before C.V. finally returned serve with Wemhoff scoring a kill for a 5-0 lead.
After a trade of sideouts, Wemhoff served 10 straight points. She had 3 straight aces then Prairie’s offense took over with Uhlenkott scoring 3 kills, VonBargen a stuff and a kill and Higgins a pair of kills to make it 16-1.
C.V. scored a pair of points then VonBargen served 3 jump serve aces and Higgins added a tip for a kill to make it 21-3.
The game ended on an ace by Uhlenkott followed by a kill by Danly.
The third game didn’t feature any huge service runs but several 3-point runs helped Prairie steadily pull away from the Rams. Seubert had the first with 2 aces bracketing a kill by VonBargen that made it 6-1.
VonBargen had another pair of jump serve aces and Uhlenkott had an ace followed by a back row kill by Uptmor. 
Bruner had the second 3-point run with VonBargen and Danly scoring kills and Bruner adding an ace to make it 17-5.
Danly had the third 3-point run with 2 aces and a kill by Wemhoff that made it 21-8.
A 4-4 finish saw Prairie win by 13.
A rare game that had more aced serves than kills saw VonBargen lead with 10 kills which included 3 stuffs. Shea also had 2 assists and 6 aces. Uhlenkott had 6 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Danly had 4 kills, 17 assists and 14 aces. Higgins had 4 kills and 2 assists. Wemhoff had 2 kills, 1 assists and 3 aces. McWilliams had 2 kills. Uptmor had 1 kill and 2 aces. Seubert had no kills but had 6 aces. Bruner added 1 ace.
Prairie is now 21-3 on the season and 11-0 in league play with a string of 17 straight match wins.
