Summit Academy Faculty and Staff read and signed the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium of the Holy Roman Catholic Church during Thursday Mass.  The document states that all employees "preserve communion with the Catholic Church whether in the words I speak or in the way I act."

Summit students received a visit and singing lessons from Miss. Jandernoa, during her recent visit to Cottonwood.  The students used their hands on their stomachs to see if they were breathing correctly for singing. Photos above provided by Summit Academy.

Summit wins 2 of 3 at District
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots finished up their regular season with wins over Highland and Kamiah and then dove into District play where they beat Highland and Nezperce but lost to Logos and were still alive as of Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Senior Night vs. Highland
On Senior Night at Highland the Patriots swept the Huskies 25-19, 25-10 and 25-13 Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Lone senior Rachel Waters put on a serving clinic in the match to help the Patriots to the sweep.
With the win Summit finished their league season at 4-8, good for 5th place.
At Kamiah
In their final regular season match of the season the Lady Patriots pulled off another sweep at Kamiah Thursday, Oct. 15.
They won by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19.
Ally Sonnen had 8 kills and 5 blocks on the nights while freshmen Taylor Lustig and Kayla Rehder had big serving nights with 21 and 11 service points respectively.
Summit finished their regular season at 6-9.
Vs. Highland at District
Summit pretty much repeated their Senior Night win when they opened District with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-23 sweep over Highland.Ally Sonnen puts up a block against Highland at District as Bridget Beckman looks on.
Sonnen scored a game opening kill then Lustig scored 2 aces with Sonnen adding 2 more kills for a 5-0 lead.
Sonnen added a 4-point service run with an ace and a kill each by Lauren Stubbers, Waters and Bridget Beckman for an 11-3 lead.
Summit kept siding out Highland’s serves and adding a service point here and there to eventually win by 11.
In the second game Waters broke open a close game with a 4-point run that featured 2 aces plus a kill each by Stubbers and Waters that made it 11-4.
Highland never got any closer than 6 the rest of the way as Summit again did a good job of siding out Highland serves while adding on points of their own.
Summit led 21-11 when Highland put their only real rally together to pull within 6 at 21-15 but that run ended on a missed serve.
Waters then served out the game as Stubbers scored a kill and Lustig scored a pair of kills including the game winner.
Highland got off to a 0-3 start in the third game and held the lead until a kill by Sonnen tied it at 9 and Lustig followed with 2 aces.
Summit pushed the lead to 6 at 17-11 and again at 22-16.
Highland then rallied back to tie the game at 23-23 before a kill by Sonnen and an ace by Lustig gave Summit the 3-game sweep.
Sonnen had 24 kills, 2 assists and 2 aces in the game while Stubbers had 10 kills including a block plus 8 assists. Waters added 4 kills, 28 assists and 4 aces while Lustig had 4 kills, 2 assists and 7 aces. Beckman had 6 kills 1 assist and 2 aces. Lucy Osborne had 2 assists and 3 aces. Kayla Rehder served for Stubbers and played back row and served 3 winners.
Vs. Logos at District
Summit played #1 seed Logos tough during the season and played them tough in the first game but fell in 3 straight games 22-25, 16-25, 16-25.
Summit fell behind 2-6 in the opening game but came back to tie it at 7 and again at 9. Beckman then served Summit into the lead with a 6-point service run that featured 2 aces plus 2 kills each by Lustig and Stubbers.
That lead melted away when Logos answered with a 5 point run that cut the lead to 17-16 before missing a serve.
A kill and then an ace by Lustig and a kill by Sonnen had Summit up 21-17 but Logos outscored them 1-8 to steal the first game.
The second game saw Logos jump out to a 5-13 lead and although Summit was able to pull back within 4 at 11-15, Logos went on to win easily by 9.
In the third game Summit took a lead after a block by Stubbers and 2 aces by Sonnen that made it 7-4.
Logos though answered with a 1-7 run that gave them the lead and a later 0-7 run pretty much put the match away.
Sonnen again led in kills with 16 and added 2 assists and 3 aces. Lustig had 6 kills, 3 assists and 3 aces. Stubbers had 5 kills including a block. Waters had 1 kill, 15 assists and 3 aces. Beckman had 1 kill and 2 aces. Osborne had 4 assists and 2 aces. Rehder had 1 assist and 1 ace.
Vs. Nezperce at District
Summit’s third and final match of the day was scheduled right after their Logos match but they got a little bit of a rest break as the Deary-Kendrick match went long.
Lauren Stubbers goes for a spike against Highland at District. Also shown are Lucy Osborne and Ally Sonnen. They needed that extra rest as they had to go 5 games to beat Nezperce 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 15-13.
It was Nezperce’s third match of the day as well but they got a whole match off between losing to Kendrick and playing Summit.
Nezperce jumped out to the lead in the opening game at 2-7, 4-11 and 6-17 and it looked like they would repeat their own Senior Night match against Summit.
Summit was down 9-20 when they started their rally innocuously enough when Lustig’s dig of a serve sailed over the net for a point.
Osborne then served 4 straight points with Sonnen scoring kills on each of them, twice on first touch spikes at the net.
After a trade of sideouts, a kill by Stubbers and an ace by Sonnen cut the lead to 17-21.
Nezperce scored another sideout but a block by Stubbers, a back row kill by Sonnen and an ace by Beckman pulled the Patriots within 2 at 20-22.
Nezperce scored another sideout but another back row kill by Sonnen sent Waters to the service line. A free ball kill by Waters, a block by Stubbers, an ace by Waters and a kill by Stubbers and Summit had stolen a game from the Indians in which they had trailed by as many as 11.
Nezperce bricked the opening serve of the second game and Lustig followed with an ace and Sonnen a kill for a 3-0 lead.
Nezperce came back to tie it at 3 and again at 4, 8, 9 and 10 but Summit never let them take the lead.
A bricked Nezperce serve broke the 10-10 tie and a kill by Sonnen, an ace by Lustig and a free ball kill by Waters put Summit up 14-10.
Nezperce was able to get back within 2 at 18-15 but a kill by Stubbers and an ace by Waters pushed it back to 4.
Summit got to game point at 24-19 but then had trouble getting the final point as Nezperce scored 3 straight points before Sonnen scored the game-winning kill.
Summit led early in the third game but Nezperce took the lead with a 5-point service run that made it 8-11 and added a 4-point run and a 3-point run later that gave them control as they went on to win 18-25.
In the fourth game Summit led only 1 time, at 1-0, as fatigue seemed to be setting in for the Patriots and Nezperce went on to take another big win.
Summit dug deep in the fifth and deciding game as a block and 2 kills by Sonnen got them off to a 3-0 lead. Nezperce quickly tied it though and appeared headed to a match win when they took a 7-11 lead after a 3-point service run.
Stubbers scored a kill on a tip and Waters served an ace to cut the lead to 9-11.
Nezperce scored a sideout but then bricked their serve. A kill each by Lustig and Sonnen tied the game at 12-12.
A violation gave the serve back to Nezperce but Sonnen scored a free ball kill and then 2 more kills with Lustig serving to give Summit a hard-fought match.
Sonnen had 28 kills in the match, including 2 blocks with 3 assists and 4 aces. Stubbers had 19 kills, which included 5 blocks plus an assist. Lustig had 9 kills, 4 assists and 6 aces. Waters had 5 kills, 34 assists and 5 aces. Beckman had 3 kills, 2 assists and an ace. Osborne had 1 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Rehder served 3 winners.
Summit took an 8-10 record into their Tuesday afternoon match against Deary, who eliminated Highland Monday evening.
