is 3-0 on the week
The Summit Academy Patriots won 3 games this past week. On Wednesday, Dec. 9 they beat Salmon River 54-40 at Cottonwood. On Friday, Dec. 10 they won a league game at Deary 45-37. Finally on Saturday, Dec. 11 they edged Colton 68-64 in overtime at Cottonwood. The Patriots raced out to a 17-5 lead after 1 quarter and extended it to 36-20 at the half. That was enough of a lead to hold off the Savages who managed to outscore Summit 18-21 in the second half. Tyler Krogh led the Patriots in scoring with 18 points with Patrick Chmelik adding 10. Jake Stubbers scored 9, Dean Stubbers 8, Caleb Currier 5 and Chris Osborne 4. Osborne had 12 rebounds and 4 assists. They trailed 10-15 after 1 quarter and 18-25 at the half. They still trailed 27-33 heading into the fourth quarter but outscored the Mustangs 18-4 in the final frame. Tyler Krogh again led the scoring with 17 points and hit 7 of 9 free throws including 6 big ones late in the game. Osborne scored 11 and had 12 rebounds while Chmelik had 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Dean Stubbers scored 4 while Jake Stubbers and Dylan Krogh added 2 each. The first quarter was close as Summit took a 10-6 lead only to see Colton cut the lead to 1 at the end of the quarter on a 3-pointer by Carter Dahmen. Dahmen hit another 3 early in the second quarter to tie the game at 12 but then Summit took control. Tyler Krogh got hot hitting 3 straight baskets for an 18-12 lead. Dean Stubbers scored inside. A steal by Currier led to a free throw by Krogh. A putback by Osborne and a steal and drive for a lay-up by Krogh capped a 13-0 run as Summit took a 25-13 lead. After a Colton free throw, a basket each by Chmelik and Krogh and a 3-pointer by Krogh made it 32-13 and a 20-1 run. Colton hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to make it 32-16 at the half. Chmelik and Dean Stubbers each scored a basket to open the third quarter scoring and then Summit went ice-cold while Colton’s Brady Chadwick got blistering hot from 3-point range. Colton took off on a 1-22 scoring run in which Chadwick was 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Colton took their first lead since it was 4-6 in the first quarter on a basket with 14 seconds left in the third quarter as they took a 37-38 lead into the fourth. Summit responded with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter as Dylan Krogh made 2 free throws, Tyler Krogh made a free throw and Osborne, Currier and Dean Stubbers each added a basket to make it 46-38. Colton came roaring right back with 4 more 3-pointers, 2 by Chadwick who also added 2 free throws, as the Wildcats too back the lead at 52-54 with 1:58 left. Chadwick fouled out with 1:43 left after hitting for six second half 3-pointers. Summit still trailed at 55-57 after a Dahmen free throw with 5.2 seconds left. Less than a second later sophomore Jake Stubbers got fouled and went to the line with a double bonus. He made both free throws to tie the game and Colton’s last second heave missed as the game went to overtime. Chmelik put Summit back on top with a putback but Dahmen tied it with a lay-up. A steal by Dean Stubbers led to a basket by Tyler Krogh. Chmelik then scored on a putback and Dean Stubbers and Tyler Krogh each scored 1 of 2 free throws for a 65-59 Summit lead. After a Colton basket, Tyler Krogh added another free throw and Dylan Krogh scored inside to make it 68-61. Colton’s Grant Kinzer hit a half-court plus buzzer beater to make final margin of 4 points. Tyler Krogh wound up with 25 points to lead the Patriots and added 11 rebounds. Chmelik had a 20-20 game with 20 points and 23 rebounds. Dean Stubbers had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Osborne had 4 points and 13 rebounds. Currier and Dylan Krogh each scored 4 and Jake Stubbers had 2 huge free throws. Summit had a 54-36 rebounding advantage. Tyler Krogh had 4 steals and 8 assists. Summit was 27 for 75 from the field, 36%, and 13 for 30 at the line, 43%. Colton was 21 for 66 from the field, 32%, and 9 for 18 at the line, 50%. 13 of their 21 field goals were 3-pointers. Summit is now 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play. In the JV game Summit eked out a 22-20 win with Jake Stubbers previewing his varsity heroics with a shot to win the game. Colton jumped out to a 0-7 lead in the game but Summit outscored them 13-5 the rest of the quarter to take a 13-12 lead on Justin Wassmuth’s 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the period. Dylan Krogh scored on a steal to open the second quarter but Colton answered with 5 straight points to retake the lead. Summit retook the lead as Jake Stubbers twice hit the second of 2 free throws with Dylan Krogh sinking a 3-pointer in between. Summit led 20-17 with 1:35 left but Colton scored 3 points at the free throw line to tie the game with 45 seconds left. Inside 5 seconds to play Dylan Krogh passed into the lane to Stubbers who turned and put up an off-balance shot that went in with 2.5 seconds left on the clock. Colton’s long 3-point try missed at the buzzer as Summit won. Dylan Krogh led the JV in scoring with 9 points and had 4 steals and 2 assists. Jake Stubbers had 4 points and 10 rebounds with Osborne also scored 4 points. Justin Wassmuth had 3 points and Sean Spencer added 2 points and 9 rebounds. Summit had a 30-28 edge on the boards. Summit was 9 for 40 from the field, 23%, and 2 for 5 at the line, 40%. Colton was 6 for 26 from the field, 23%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%.
