attend CEDA training
Carol Altman, Clerk-Treasurer, and Shelli Schumacher, Councilmember, from the City of Cottonwood were among eight community representatives honored by Clearwater Economic Development Association (CEDA) upon their completion of a year-long Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI) entitled Community Projects: “Putting all the Pieces Together for Success”. Representatives from four area communities, including Cottonwood, completed 20 hours of training and were awarded certificates at the group’s December 16th meeting. In addition to the two from Cottonwood, class participants from the cities of Juliaetta, Nezperce, and Potlatch were recognized. CEDA, a regional planning organization of which the City is a member, is able to facilitate RCDI Classes thanks to a USDA Rural Development grant. Grant funds are used to bolster North Central Idaho communities by providing the opportunity for community leaders to receive training in successfully developing, implementing, and sustaining projects. As participants, Altman and Schumacher attended seminars and classes where CEDA staff, state and local resource providers, and other community leaders shared knowledge and technical assistance for community projects. The cohort format encourages cities to share their experiences and to tap into each other’s expertise, creating valuable partnerships across the region. Learning in the classes and workshops was augmented by “hands on” technical assistance on a project of the community’s choice. Altman and Schumacher used the class as a tool to help with the ongoing Cottonwood Senior Center project. The Senior Center is currently in construction with an anticipated completion date of Spring 2016. Skills gained in the class will be applied to future projects as well.
