Lady Pirates beat Asotin
In their final game of 2015 the Prairie Lady Pirates bounced back from two straight losses to beat Asotin 61-28 at Cottonwood Tuesday, Dec. 15.
It took Prairie 2 seconds to record their first point as they won the tap and Kylie Tidwell scored a lay-up. Shayla VonBargen has a big smile as she scores a layup after stealing the ball and driving the length of the floor against Asotin.
Asotin answered quickly but then the Pirates took control as they reeled of 16 straight points.
Tidwell and Chaye Uptmor each scored 6 points in that run with Shayla VonBargen scoring the other 4.
After another basket by Uptmor, Prairie was up 20-4. Asotin scored the final 4 points of the quarter to make it 20-8.
It was more of the same in the second quarter as Prairie outscored the Panthers 15-4 to build a 35-12 halftime lead.
VonBargen added 6 points in the second quarter while Angela Wemhoff scored 4 and Tidwell and Uptmor added 2 more each.
After forcing 20 first half turnovers, Prairie backed off somewhat on the defense in the second half. They still outscored Asotin 16-12 in the third quarter and 10-4 in the final frame.
JV players picked up most of the playing time in the final period.
VonBargen led 3 players in double figures with 16 points with Tidwell scoring 14 and Uptmor 12. Talyss Lustig added 7 points with Wemhoff scoring 4, Josie Peery 3, Kristyna Krogh and Sydney Bruner had 2 each  and Leah Higgins scored 1.
Prairie had a 41-32 edge on the boards led by VonBargen who had 13.
Wemhoff nearly had double figures in steals with 9 and Hailey Danly dished out 5 assists and had 3 steals. VonBargen added 5 steals.
Prairie was 27 for 60 from the field, 45%, and 7 for 24 at the line, 29%. Asotin was 12 for 37 from the field, 32%, and 3 for 7 at the line, 43%.
Prairie ends 2015 with an 8-3 record. 5-1 in league play.
The JV game was a total mismatch as Prairie led 14-0 after 1 quarter and 38-0 at the half and went on to win 58-6.
5 of the 8 players who got in the game for Asotin were 8th graders which probably does a lot to explain how overmatched they were.
In the first quarter for Prairie, Jordyn Higgins was the big scorer with 6 points with Leah Higgins and Theresa Wemhoff adding 4 each.
In the second quarter Delaney Uhlenkott scored 10 and Kendra Duclos added 8.
Prairie forced 12 turnovers in each quarter.
The second half saw the C players get the bulk of the playing time and they still outscored Asotin 10-6 in the third quarter and 10-0 in the running clock fourth quarter.
Sierah Poxleitner scored 6 for Priarie in the third quarter and Duclos scored 6 in the fourth.
