Lady Pirates 1-1 on the week
After a heavy schedule before Christmas, the Prairie Lady Pirates played just 2 games this past week, with 4 days off in between. They opened their post-holiday schedule with a 24-36 loss at Moscow Tuesday, Jan. 5, and then bounced back with a 57-33 win over Troy at Cottonwood Saturday, Jan. 9.
At Moscow
In the game at Moscow the Lady Pirates struggled with their shooting as they had a lot of good shots that just wouldn’t go in.
Prairie started the game just 1 for 10 from the field and scored only 2 points in the first quarter as they trailed 2-8 after 1. They stepped it up a bit in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears but still trailed 10-15 at the half. They trailed 16-25 after 3 quarters.
Chaye Uptmor led Prairie in scoring with 12 points with Shayla VonBargen scoring 4, Hailey Danly and Angela Wemhoff 3 each and Kylie Tidwell 2.

Vs. Troy
Unlike the previous game with Troy where Prairie trailed much of the first half before pulling away in the second for a huge win, Prairie jumped on Troy at the start this time out as they scored the first 8 points of the game and led 16-4 by the end of the first quarter.Hailey Danly drives past a pick set by Chaye Uptmor in the girls game against Troy.
Danly scored 8 of Prairie’s 16 first quarter points.
Prairie started the second quarter with a 10-0 run as they led 26-4 with 5:31 left in the half. They led 34-12 at halftime.
They built their lead in the second half to as many as 31 at 57-26 with 3:55 left to play.  That turned on the running clock and Prairie sent the JV swing players out for the rest of the game which allowed Troy to scored the final 7 points of the game.
Danly stuffed the stat sheet for Prairie as she had a game-high 15 points with 10 assists, 6 steals and 6 rebounds.
Talyss Lustig came off the bench to score 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting. Wemhoff scored 9, Tidwell 8, Uptmor 6,  VonBargen 4, Josie Peery 3 and Leah Higgins 2.
Prairie controlled the boards 47-33 with VonBargen grabbing 11 despite foul trouble. Peery added 9 boards and Wemhoff and Lustig had 6 each.
VonBargen and Uptmor had 5 steals each.
Troy had 23 turnovers to just 10 for Prairie.
The Lady Pirates were 25 for 65 from the field, 38%, and 7 for 12 at the line, 58%. Troy was 10 for 45 from the field, 22%, and 11 for 19 at the line, 58%.
Prairie is now 9-4 on the season and 6-1 in league play.
The JV team also rolled to a big win, 44-16.
The JV’s jumped out to a 13-5 lead by the end of the first quarter as Jordyn Higgins scored 6 and Theresa Wemhoff 4.
After a 2-2 start to the second quarter, Prairie scored the final 11 points of the half to take a 26-7 lead at the break. Kendra Duclos scored 5 and Wemhoff 4 in that run.
Prairie made it a 17-0 run overall as they scored the first 6 points of the third quarter.
Prairie led 36-14 by the end of the third quarter.
Duclos scored 9 to lead the team with Wemhoff adding 8, Jordyn Higgins and Madison Pecarovich 6 each, Kodie Tidwell, Laney Uhlenkott and Sierah Poxleitner 4 each and Sydney Bruner 3.
Prairie had a 39-28 edge on the boards. Tidwell and Leah Higgins had 5 each to lead the team with Uhlenkott, Sarah Ross and Hope McIntire adding 4 each.
Jordyn Higgins had 5 steals and McIntire had 4 while Uhlenkott and Leah Higgins had 3 assists each.
Prairie was 21 for 58 from the field, 36%, and 2 of 6 at the line, 33%. Troy was 6 for 33 from the field, 18%, and 4 of 6 at the line, 67%.
