Notes from (outside) City Hall
Outside City Hall.  What a strange feeling.  After 24 years of service to the good people of this town, I have been forced to tender my resignation from being your Mayor due to a 60’ by 70’ lot at the airport that my building sits on.  For those of you who haven’t been following along, the City is not allowed to lease even this postage sized lot to an elected official or even a Mayor-Elect in fear that the official has some nefarious intention.
I appreciate the support I have received over the years from the good people of this community and have thoroughly enjoyed serving you and moving the City forward.  Great improvements have been made to all departments of the City during my tenure but they have been due to the efforts of several dedicated and hardworking Council persons over the years.  Fortunately, some of them remain on the Council and will continue to move the City forward.  I have every confidence that Shelli Schumacher will be an excellent choice to fill the Mayor chair.  She is a capable and dedicated individual and has my wholehearted support.
Above all, I want to apologize to the Council, the Staff and the citizens of this community for all the anxiety and embarrassment that my situation may have caused any of you.  Please know that I was only trying to be above board with the property lease requirement and had no idea that my purchase of a building situated on City property would cause such a problem.
And, incidentally, I have an airplane hangar for sale.  I don’t even own an airplane.
Respectfully,
Denis B. Duman
